Informational Meeting

MINUTES Monday, May 10, 2010 Informational Meeting 4:00 p.m. at Carnegie Town Hall Sioux Falls City Council 235 West 10th Street Members Present: Kenny Anderson Jr., Gerald Beninga, J. Pat Costello, Greg Jamison, De Knudson, Bob Litz, and Kermit Staggers. Members Absent: Vernon Brown, and Mayor Dave Munson. Staff Present: Debra A. Owen, City Clerk/Chief of Council Operations, and Jamie L. Palmer, Assistant City Clerk. 1. Call To Order Council Chair Costello called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. 2. City Council Staff Report A. Debra A. Owen, City Clerk/Chief of Council Operations Owen shared that orientation was held today for the newly elected Council Members. She stated that the waterbill advertising the new council members and their contact information will be sent in August. She reported that a final bill for the election will be presented to the Council at the first meeting in June. She stated that a cake reception will be held today immediately following this meeting for outgoing council members. 3. Mayor Munson No report. 4. Audit Committee No report. Jamison stated that the next meeting is scheduled for May 20, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. 5. Fiscal Committee No report. 6. Land Use Committee No report. 7. Public Services Committee No report. 8. City Council Open Discussion Councilor Knudson reminded the public that there is an open house for Mayor Munson on Friday, May 14, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., at the Orpheum Theatre. She shared about her experience at the newly renovated downtown library. She shared some information that the councilors received about Pettigrew Heights.  Councilor Beninga shared an email he received from friend who lives in North Carolina regarding the exceptional assistance the family received from the Sioux Falls Police Department and Metro Communcations when his father-in-law, who suffers from Aalzheimer’s, went missing. He expressed personal thanks to Officer Matt Walker, Jennifer Vaernhoej, Erin Christensen and Patti Lyon for service above and beyond the call of duty. Councilor Jamison stated that he spoke with both Mayor Munson and Mayor-Elect Huether about Item 3 & 4 on this evenings agenda and neither have any concerns with the appointments being recommended. Discussion followed. Councilor Jamison thanked the out-going Council Members for their service. Council Chair Costello shared that a resolution will be walked in during this evening’s council meeting regarding the election of the Chair and Vice Chair. He asked if there were any concerns.
