MINUTES Tuesday, July 24, 2012 Informational Meeting 4:00 PM at Carnegie Town Hall Sioux Falls City Council 235 West Tenth Street Members Present: Sue Aguilar, Kenny Anderson Jr., James Entenman, Michelle Erpenbach, Greg Jamison, Rex Rolfing, Kermit L. Staggers, Mike T. Huether Members Absent: Dean Karsky Staff Present: Denise D. Tucker, CMC, Assistant City Clerk; and Lorie Hogstad, City Clerk 1. Call To Order City Council Chair Michelle Erpenbach called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. 2. City Council Open Discussion Rolfing was recently in Provo, Utah, and stopped in to their new Convention Center and spoke to Scott Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh is a former manager of the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Entenman congratulated the Sioux Falls Air Show and the South Dakota Air National Guard for a fantastic air show. He also thanked the Navy. Entenman said it is Navy Week, which being celebrated in Sioux Falls. He was informed that South Dakota has the highest per capita for people serving in the Navy. 3. Presentations A. Monthly Events Center Project Update Erpenbach asked Trent Lubbers, with Public Works, to provide an overview on this morning's additional water restrictions. Lubbers said the City Power and Light Division lost power, believed to have been caused by a grounding rod hitting a primary conductor. He said they have standby resources that were in place and went online. The standby resources can only make 30 million gallons of water a day. Lubbers said the demand at the time was for 45 million gallons of water. A decision was made to curb water usage. He said there is stored water in the system, but once that is used up, they wouldn't have been able to replace it fast enough for evening use. The issue was resolved faster than they thought – four hours. The water restrictions were rescinded. 4. Adjournment City Council Chair Erpenbach adjourned the meeting at 4:51 p.m. Denise D.
