MINUTES Informational Meeting Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 4:00 PM Carnegie Town Hall, 235 West 10th St., Sioux Falls, SD 57104 1. Call To Order Council Members Present: David Barranco, Miranda Basye, Sarah Cole, Jennifer Sigette, Curt Soehl, Ryan Spellerberg, Richard L. Thomason Council Members Absent: Rich Merkouris Council Chair Curt Soehl called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. 2. Councilor Remarks There were none. 3. Presentations A. Center for New Americans Updates and Multi-Cultural Strategy by Rebecca Kiesow-Knudsen, President and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota Presentation: Approximately 15 minutes followed by discussion Rebecca Kiesow-Knudsen, President and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota, presented updates on the Center for New Americans and Multi- Cultural Strategy (presentations attached to the agenda). Following the presentation, there was some discussion, and the questions asked by the Council were answered by Kiesow-Knudsen. Laura Smith-Hill, Inter-Cultural Services Associate Director, Center for New Americans of Lutheran Social Services, shared additional information on the driver education program. B. Johnson Consulting Presentation by Shawn Pritchett, Director of Finance; and John Fleming, Charlie Johnson and Brandon Dowling, from Johnson Consulting Presentation: Approximately 15 minutes followed by discussion Shawn Pritchett, Director of Finance, gave an overview of the presentation and introduced the representatives present from Johnson Consulting. Charlie Johnson, President of Johnson Consulting, spoke on the research analysis conducted on convention/conference centers and the City's Riverline District. John Fleming, Johnson Consulting, gave a detailed review of the findings of the  convention center review and market analysis, and repurposing of the existing convention center (presentation. Following the presentation, there was some detailed discussion, and the questions asked by the Council were answered by Pritchett, Fleming, and Brandon Dowling, Senior Project Analysis, Johnson Consulting. 4. Public Comment Sierra Broussard shared some community feedback on the convention center and costs; she also spoke on some concerns of the middle-class citizens. Craig Lloyd spoke on his company supplying low-income, affordable housing, and the effects of building around homeless populations. 5. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 5:09 p.m. Jermery J.
