MINUTES Tuesday, January 14, 2014 Public Services Committee * 5:14 PM Carnegie Town Hall 235 West 10th Street Members Present: Council Member Kenny Anderson Jr., Council Member Michelle Erpenbach, Council Member Dean Karsky, and Council Member Sue Aguilar Members Absent: None Staff Present: Tamara Jorgensen, CMC, Assistant City Clerk; Jim David, Legislative/Operations Manager; and David Bixler, Budget Analyst 1. Call To Order Committee Chair Kenny Anderson Jr. called the meeting to order at 5:14 p.m. 2. Vehicle for Hire Ordinance Review by Jim David, Legislative/Operations Manager Jim David, Legislative/Operations Manager, reviewed proposed changes to the Vehicle For Hire ordinance. The subjects reviewed were: definitions, suspension and revocation, surcharges, taxi fares, taxi license fees, investigation, and examination of the applicant. Discussion followed. A motion was made by Council Member Michelle Erpenbach and seconded by Council Member Sue Aguilar to remove (c) from Section 124.006 (Qualification for Taxi Cab Business). Chairperson Anderson Jr. asked for a voice vote and all members voted yes. Motion Passed. Discussion was held regarding enforcement of this ordinance. Anderson Jr. thought enforcement personnel should be under the Licensing Department by adding two part time employees. Discussion was held regarding raising fees to justify the additional expenses associated with this process. Erpenbach noted that the City Council can make suggestions, but the City Council does not have the authority to determine these details.  Public Input was taken at this time. This item will be reviewed again at the Public Services Committee Meeting for February 11, 2014. Erpenbach requested this topic be added to an Informational Meeting. It should then be ready to move forward to the City Council for full review. 3. Open Discussion There was none. 4. Adjournment A motion was made by Council Member Michelle Erpenbach and seconded by Council Member Dean Karsky to adjourn the meeting at 6:42 p.m. Anderson Jr. asked for a voice vote was taken and all members voted yes.
