Regulatory Oversight Committee Meeting

MINUTES Regulatory Oversight Committee Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 2:30 PM Carnegie Town Hall, 235 West 10th St., Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57104 1. Call To Order Present: Committee Chair Alex Jensen, Committee Member Rich Merkouris, Committee Member Greg Neitzert, Committee Member David Barranco Absent: None 2. Regulatory Oversight Committee Role/Purpose Committee Chair Alex Jensen gave an overview on the purpose of the Regulatory Oversight Committee (ROC), and introduced the committee members. 3. Childcare Affordability & Availability  Helpline Center Janet Kittams, Chief Executive Officer, and Betsy Schuster, Vice President of Program Development, Helpline Center, gave a presentation on the Childcare Helpline Center (presentation attached). Following the presentation, there was a detailed discussion based on the presentation; and questions asked by committee members were answered by the presenters.  Childcare Collaborative Michelle Erpenbach, President of Sioux Falls Thrive, gave a presentation on the Sioux Falls Childcare Collaborative (presentation attached). There was some discussion following the presentation, and the committee members asked questions which were answered by the presenter. 4. Open Discussion Committee Member Neitzert spoke on the schedule of the ROC meetings and child safety.  Committee Member Merkouris spoke on: contacting Forward Sioux Falls, bringing options to incentivize the creation of more in-home childcare focus, and conversations on the studies done on childcare ratios. 5. Next Meeting Date/Time Jensen recommended the committee meet every other week; the next meetings will be on January 16 at 2:30, and January 23 at 2:30 p.m. 6. Public Comment Corri Poore spoke on concerns and the sense of urgency of childcare issues. 7. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m. Jermery J. Washington, City Clerk
