1. Trailside Art Project Call for Artists
Committee will vote on the following:
1. Is the committee open to constructing 2 mural surfaces (8 ft. wide by 4 ft. high)
with the allotted $4k from FY 26 as long as it comes under $3,500 threshold for
finance department?
2. If so, is the committee ok designating remaining funds for coating?
3. How does the Committee want to use the $5,000 funds that will be dedicated for
this project in FY 27?
Option 1: Could use it to pay a $1,000 to $1200 stipends for mural artists (1 artist
per each side of a mural surface) - remaining funds for seal coating?
Option 2: Do you want to do a call for artists for other types of art installations on
the trail as well as pay artists to paint mural s?
2. Art in the Park Preparation Discussion
Committee will discuss the following:
1. Materials needed for tabling and reimbursement procedure
2. Contacting Parks Dept. for table & tent
3. Volunteer opportunities for the event
3. Brass Roots Festival - September 2026

○ Our request was moved to the Parking Lot (along with all other similar
requests from other committees)
○ Three approaches possible:
i. Remove Mahoney request
ii. More specifically state what the funds would be used for
iii. Keep the total budget request the same and move the Mahoney
funds to another project

reallocate the money (reducing total budget request by $7500)

○ MOTION D.1.2: Reduce Trailside Art Enclosure request to 4 units at
$2500 each for a total of $10,000, with $5000 provided (contingent upon
success of the grant application) by the matching grant from the Maine
Arts Commission and $5000 provided by the City. Reduces total budget

E. New Business
1. Trailside Art Project Call for Artists
● Committee will discuss sub-committee's work on developing a call for artists.
○ Liz and James have drafted the text of the call, which will not have the full
detail of an RFP or specific contract details
○ Liz: Based on the proposed location of the first surface in Mill Creek,
should the call mention the importance of art presenting to cars on
Broadway?
■ Raises the possible desirability of more 3D art, as opposed to
painted flat surfaces
○ Should one artist do both sides of the surface, or just one?
○ Need to make sure that language doesn’t box us into an unnecessarily
specific format for the installations
○ Next step: Liz will email James and tell him that the Committee has seen
the draft of the call for artists.
