Minutes of August 10, 2021
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting was called to order by Mike Lindamood
at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
Members Present: Lori Miller, Mike Lindamood,
Members Absent: Josh Regan, Cindy Bonawitz, Ron Morgan, Cynthia Callais
Others Present: Joe Kaliszewski, Shannon Young

3. OLD BUSINESS
3A. Recreation Program Updates/Pools, Seasonal Staffing, Programming
Ms. Young gave an overview of the summer pool season. Challenges of lifeguard training and
operations prior to the season. Ms. Young noted Recreation Supervisor Mercedes Miklya did an
outstanding job getting the pool up and running. Ms. Miklya also had a successful season
programming the summer playhouse and playgrounds program. Nice job Mercedes!
3B. Kaposia Landing Phase 2 Construction Update – Playground Update – The construction
has been completed and well received by the community. The last pile of sand is scheduled to be picked up
soon. Trees have been planted and being watered weekly.
3C. Doug Woog Arena – Ms. Young explained she has been working with the staff to update and repair
the issues at the arena. Staff has stepped up during the transition and are doing a fantastic job. Ms. Young
noted the hiring of the new arena manager has been completed and that he will begin on August 23rd. Seth
Anderson formally an arena employee was currently working in the Parks division at public works will be
returning to the arena for maintenance. Mr. Anderson will be focused on the mechanical side of the arena.
3D. Wakota Trailhead & Overlook – FLAP Grant 2022 – Ms. Young noted she is working
with city engineer Sue Polka and SRF in the planning of the trailhead. SRF will be seeking
community input in the coming week. Ms. Young will provide the board information when
available.
3E. SHIP Grant – Bryant Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Feasibility Study – No new updates
3F. Park Assignments/Visit Reports – no updates
4. NEW BUSINESS -
4A. Parks Master Plan - Ms. Young noted it is time to create a Parks Master Plan. Ms. Young
noted the board will be asked for their input along the way. More information will be provided as
we move forward.
B. Future Events – Ms. Young reported that as the Parks and Recreation Dept. has moved int
their new location at city hall and have separated from Central Square the department will be
working on their new programming and identity. More to come…
