South St. Paul Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Minutes of September 14, 2021 City Hall The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting was called to order by Josh Regan at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. Members Present: Lori Miller, Mike Lindamood, Cindy Bonawitz, Ron Morgan, Cynthia Callais Members Absent: Others Present: Joe Kaliszewski, Shannon Young, John Wilcox 1. INTRODUCTIONS – John Wilcox -Arena Manager 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Mike Lindamood and second by Ron Morgan to approve the Minutes of August 10, 2021. 5 Yays. 0 Nays. Motion Passed 3. OLD BUSINESS 3A. Recreation Program Updates/Pools, Seasonal Staffing, Programming Ms. Young noted that Recreation Supervisor Cede Miklya will not be in attendance as she is at youth football. Upon her return next month she will provide an overview of the pool season along with the youth football season. Fall Programming offerings for youth will be trips to Afton Apple and Ninja Warriors. 3B. Kaposia Landing Phase 2 Construction Update Ms. Young noted they are looking into picnic tables for the empty concrete slabs around the playground. Ms. Young reported the city received a DNR tree grant to plant and or replace trees in the park system. She recently attended a meeting with engineering and public works to discuss possibilities of placement and varieties of the trees. 3C. Doug Woog Arena – Mr. Wilcox provided an update of the challenges at the arena. Mr. Wilcox noted along with the Arena lead Seth Anderson they have been cleaning out the spaces at the arena and creating a list of upgrades and identifying immediate items that need to be repaired. 3D. Wakota Trailhead & Overlook – FLAP Grant 2022 – Ms. Young provided the group with the information for the publics input in the Wakota Trailhead. She will report back with updates. 3E. Park Assignments/Visit Reports – Ron Morgan asked if the Northview outhouse could get an enclosure. Ms. Young will talk with the Parks division to see if this can be accomplished. 4. NEW BUSINESS - 4A. Future Events Planning – Mercedes Miklya As Ms. Miklya is not in attendance tonight she will report at the next meeting. B. Park Updates - Ms. Young reported the streets division has been busy this summer updating some areas of the park system. Updates to the parking area West of the Lorraine Splash pool received a new layer of asphalt, Lorraine Park walking paths have been refreshed with a new layer of asphalt along with a new walking path from the South to the North Shelter. 130 tons of asphalt was poured. Nice Job Cory Pace and staff! Kaposia Pavilion is being worked on to replace the North entrance. The area has eroded due to water issues along that side. City Staff will be replacing and also relocating the inside water pipes to the South side of the pavilion. 5. OTHER BUSINESS – none 6. ADJOURNMENT – Next Meeting: Oct. 12, 2021, at City Hall
