South St. Paul Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Minutes of December 14th, 2021 The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting was called to order by Josh Regan at 6:00 p.m. at South St Paul City Hall Members Present: Josh Regan, Cindy Bonowitz Members Absent: Lori Miller, Mike Lindamood, Ron Morgan Others Present: Joe Kaliszewski, Shannon Young, Mercedes Miklya 1. INTRODUCTIONS –none 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Due to lack quorum, consideration of the meeting minutes of October 10, 2021, will be deferred to the January 11, 2022 meeting. 3. OLD BUSINESS 3A. Recreation Program Updates – Outdoor Rinks, School Break Trips Ms. Miklya reported the outdoor Rink Trailer at Harmon is in place and the park maintenance staff is flooding rinks. Youth school break trips are scheduled to Fun Lab and Laser tag. 3B. Future Events Planning/Special Events Ms. Miklya presented the upcoming winter events. Theme this winter will be Flannel Fest. Events will include Bowling, Starlight Sledding, Boot Hockey tournament, and Flapjacks. All events will be on the South St. Paul website with all the details. 3C. Kaposia Landing – Phase 2 Construction Update None 3D. Doug Woog Arena Updates Ms. Young noted the arena will host the MN Gopher vs St. Thomas College Exhibition game on January 2nd. Woog arena is also offering open skate times during non-school days. The arena received a $12,545 energy rebate. The radiant heat needs to be replaced in rink one and currently getting bids on the project. 3E. Wakota Trailhead & Overlook – FLAP Grant Ms. Young noted there were no updates to this at this time. Funding amount for the 2021 grant is still unknown. 3F. Park Assignments/Visit Reports No new updates at this time. 4. NEW BUSINESS - A. Park Updates- Kaposia Pavilion/Outdoor Rinks Ms. Young noted park reservations for 2022 begin January 3rd. B. 2022 Meeting Calendar Meeting calendar was distributed to group 5.
