CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – MINUTES Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:30 am MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: 7:31am ATTENDANCE: Mader, Kelly, Gefvert, Hall, Donat, Clark, Peters, Lee, Coburn, Hanson APPROVAL OF AGENDA – Motion by Gefvert second by Hall: Motion Carries APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Motion by Hall Second by Kelly: Motion Carries ITEMS FROM VISITORS (Policy Note: Visitors are limited to 5 minutes of presentation followed by questions) Director Updates  Capital Improvement Plan Amendment o Currently outdoor pickleball on 2019 capital improvement plan; Lions slash pad on 2020 capital improvement plan. By next meeting Mader would like to have more of a plan from both groups in order to move forward with any recommendations. Discussion points were the needs of each project, operational costs and how it would affect revenue of other facilities.  Waterpark day passes and membership numbers o 2018 total visits were down from 2017. It is thought that a big contributing factor in this was the unusually cool summer. Will be looking at adding new events and programs to Rec Center we also plan on hosting another open house.  Campground occupancy o Labor Day weekend revenue is up from 2017; fee increases have affected this increase as the campground was full both years. Total revenue for campground in 2017 was roughly $352,000. 2018 revenue is roughly $333,000 we are on track and have about 1 more month of the season. Mader will report at the end of the season.  Off- Leash park area o This will be going to council, after council decision we will start placing signs or moving to next step.
