CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – MINUTES Thursday, Aug 16, 2018 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:30 am Meeting Called to Order: 7:32am APPROVAL OF AGENDA – Motion by Kelly, Second by Hanson – Motion Carries APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Motion by Coburn, Second by Neilson – Motion Carries ATTENDANCE- Donat, Kelly, Mader, Rauterkus, Parks Staff, Hall, Hanson, Coburn, Neilson, Peters ITEMS FROM VISITORS (Policy Note: Visitors are limited to 5 minutes of presentation followed by questions) Director Updates  Dog Park – Different options were kicked around, held a meeting Tuesday morning. We would like to move forward with the plan Chief Rotert came up with. Utilizing the northern section of the Meier property; we will continue to monitor this and make changes as needed. Motion by Hall to make recommendation to council that we implement the proposed recommendation from Chief Rotert, Second by Kelly – Motion carries.  Budget- There has been cuts in operational budgets, marketing and advertising budgets were cut dramatically. A full time position at the Rec Center will not be split between opening the Rec Center M-F and the Campground. Mader would like to re-evaluate programs and add in more successful programs and look at the impact of the programs.  Master Plan – has been submitted to Mike and department heads. Mader is looking for input to move forward. Board Items Park & Forestry Rec & Aquatic Center  Rec Grant – Revamped it- will be on next agenda for discussion.  Following month will be scholarship reviewing  Afterschool Program – (Activities) Free healthy snack is provided. Clinic or camp will always be provided.
