Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – MINUTES Thursday, Nov 14, 2019 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:30 am CALLED TO ORDER: 7:33 AM ATTENDANCE: Rauterkus, Ehnes, McDonald, Donat, Hanson, Neilson, Coburn, Peters, Clark, Eisenbraun, APPROVAL OF AGENDA Motion by Hanson, Second by Neilson; Motion Carries APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Hanson, Second by Neilson; Motion Carries ITEMS FROM VISITORS (Policy Note: Visitors are limited to 5 minutes of presentation followed by questions)  Andrew Koistinen – Optimist Club Winter Wonderland Idea o Light tour through City Campground. Businesses and non-profits will set up displays in the campground sites. The displays would be open Friday-Sunday for several weekends before Christmas. The board had several questions regarding electricity costs and the number of people attending. o Motion by Coburn to support the idea, Second by Neilson; Motion Carries OLD BUSINESS Director Items  Pickleball Update o The project will be taken to bid in Jan. Staff and the engineering firm have been working to reduce costs of the project. The new estimated project cost is $240,000 with grants and the pickleball club reimbursing the city $120,000.  Rec Path Update o Ehnes recently took the TA Grant presentation to Pierre; felt the presentation went well. There were 5 other entities that applied for the grant. The grant selection committee made their recommendations and these recommendations will go to the Transportation Committee for final approval. Staff is expecting notification sometime near the end of January. Board Items Rec & Aquatic Center Park & Forestry NEW BUSINESS Rec & Aquatic Center  Waterpark Hours o Open Swim – Noon – 6 Next Meeting – December 19, 2019 7:30 am Council Chambers Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – MINUTES Thursday, Nov 14, 2019 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:30 am o Member-only swim 11-Noon o Swim Lessons – 8:45am, 9:30am, 10:15am, 6:15pm, 7:00pm Director Items Board Items  PRF Advisory Board Subcommittees o Two subcommittees were created to assist the Parks, Rec and Forestry departments with decisions and future planning.  Master Planning/Budget will be made up of Hall, Hanson, Peters, and Caldwell.  Rec and Aquatics Center will be made up of Donat, Neilsen, and Coburn.  Ehnes will continue to look at schedule and new members to the board will be added in the new year.  Board Members and Terms o Jordan Bauer Vacated Position o Bruce Gefvert will be stepping down from the board at the end of his term. o Charlie Neilsen has expressed interest to stay on the board. o Mayor Boke has received several applications and will be appointing the open positions. Park & Forestry  Memorial Tree Program o Since the memorial bench program has been discontinued, a need has arisen for a new memorial program. McDonald has come up with the idea of a memorial tree program. The board like the idea and encouraged McDonald to come up with a policy and bring it back to the board. o McDonald will continue to work on this idea.
