Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – MINUTES Thursday, January 9th, 2020 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:30 am ATTENDANCE: McDonald, Rauterkus, Ehnes, Hall, Griffith, Nielson, City Attorney McDonald, City Admin Harmon, Vig, Anundson, Peters Quorum not present; discussion only meeting started at 7:45am. APPROVAL OF AGENDA APPROVAL OF MINUTES Board items  Introduction of new board members and staff o Brock Anundson – BHSU Assistant Athletic Director – Facilities  See Attached Biography o Justin Griffith – Spearfish Pickleball President and Spearfish Youth Soccer Board Member  See Attached Biography  Election of Officers o Chair  Dave Donat is the current chair and would like to continue his position. o Vice Chair  Jesse Hanson is the current vice chair.  Assign new board members to subcommittees o Justin Griffith – Rec Center o Brock Anundson – Master Planning/Budget ITEMS FROM VISITORS (Policy Note: Visitors are limited to 5 minutes of presentation followed by questions)  Leadership Spearfish – Book Walk in the Park along path. o Rauterkus presented the story walk/book walk. A project that Leadership Spearfish would like to get started in Spearfish. Their hope is the Library would take over and change the stories as needed. The story walk would be placed between Jorgensen Park and Evans Park. o Present board members were supportive of it. Ehnes will take it to council with the assumption the board supports it. Next Meeting – February 20, 2020 7:30 am Council Chambers Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – MINUTES Thursday, January 9th, 2020 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:30 am OLD BUSINESS Director Items  Exit 8 Rec Path Update o Current plans to push the project through to complete this year. If we receive the TA grant it will push the project back a full year.  Pickleball Update o Bid opens Jan 22nd it is a two part bid hoping to get lower estimates. Board Items Rec & Aquatic Center  Civic Rec Update o Complete  Waterpark Member Only Hours, Open Swim Hours o 11am – 12pm capacity of 350 o 12pm – 6:30pm Open Swim o Tabled until February for Vote  Waterpark Swim Lesson Hours o Would slightly affect lesson and class times Park & Forestry  Lookout Mountain Update o Eagle Scouts put the posts in, new signs are up. Currently working on updating the map and getting the GPS locations of each post; this will aid in first responders helping stranded people on the mountain.  Tree Inventory Grant Update o $5,000 grand has been conditionally granted based on a meeting with Josh Larson, & city financial information. McDonald has talked to BHSU to possibly hire students for an internship to help with the inventory.  Ash Tree Removal o The parks department has removed 20 trees this year; 15 more to go to reach the 5% mark laid out in the EAB plan. Ehnes will send out a document.  Sport Field Informational Discussion o Subcommittee – Ehnes, Harmon, McDonald, Donat, Eisenbraun o Hopefully fields will be ready to play on by 2022 o Working on budget, funding and sponsorships o More to come at the February Board Meeting.
