Spearfish Planning Commission Regular Meeting Minutes Tuesday, October 17, 2017 The Spearfish Planning Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the council chambers at Spearfish City Hall. Members present: Toby Bordewyk, Dan Green, Jim Hopewell, Greg Kruskamp, Bob Meyer, and Drew Skjoldal. Members absent: Larry Vavruska and Barbara Zwetzig. Also present: City Planner Jayna Watson and City Attorney Eric Davis. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bordewyk at 3:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Kruskamp moved to approve the minutes of the Planning Commission meeting of Tuesday, September 19, 2017 as presented. The motion was seconded by Green and passed unanimously. DECLARATION OF CONFLICTS OF INTEREST: Bordewyk asked for any potential conflicts of interest to be identified. None were declared. 1. Request: Variance to front yard setbacks to allow for roofed porch to be two feet eight inches (2’8”) from the property line; zoning code requires fifteen feet (15’). Applicant: Bill Termes Location: 625 E. Illinois Lot 12, Block 35, Original Town, City of Spearfish City Planner Jayna Watson presented an overview of the information detailed in the staff report and concluded by presenting staff analysis of the variance criteria and pertinent findings for the commission to consideration. Motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Green to recommend approval of a variance to allow a roofed porch to be two feet eight inches (2’ 8”) from the property line and to set a public hearing before the Board of Adjustment for Monday, November 6, 2017. Upon vote taken thereon, the motion carried unanimously. CITY COUNCIL UPDATE: Watson reported on business matters considered at the city council meeting last evening. Watson distributed a reference guide to setbacks and lot size regulations in Spearfish. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the commission, Bordewyk adjourned the meeting at approximately 4:10 p.m.
