DISCUSSION
• Veterans Park Grand opening is scheduled for July 4th at 10:30 am. There will be a brief
presentation with the Mayor and color guard, fire engine on display and refreshments. The Parks
Advisory Board will have a booth set up near the display for the memorial and pavilion design
boards.
• Mr. Hendershot presented the Parks Advisory Board with the vision given by the Council for the
park area located near the Woodland Ridge Subdivision. This area would be a dedicated space

for memorializing outstanding residents. The space would include benches, walking trail and
possible pavilion or gazebo. The Council would like the Parks Advisory Board to develop this
vision further along with criteria and application process.
Carol Thomas recommended this be a space not only for memorial but for recognizing any
exceptional citizen.
Possible options for recognition discussed include benches, trees, bricks, or engraved names on
a plaque. It was recommended the nominating party fund the item used for recognition.
Tommy Holland suggested additional information regarding the honoree be placed on the City’s
Website. People visiting the memorial area would be able to see the impact of the persons
contribution more fully.
Mr. Hendershot requested the board continue criteria and vision discussions at the July meeting
and make a recommendation to the City Council when ready.
• Contain the Rain is a Johnson County program encourages individual homeowners to make
improvements on their properties to improve stormwater quality. This program provides
reimbursement of 50% of qualifying costs. While the reimbursement would come from monies
allocated from Johnson County the program would be managed by City staff. Criteria for the
program can be adjusted by the City however it must meet the minimum criteria from Johnson
County.
Miami County does not currently offer a similar program. Staff is exploring options for funding
the Miami County area of Spring Hill.
The Board will discuss program details and criteria in July. The Board will then make a
recommendation to the City Council.
STAFF REPORT
• Parks staff has applied a broadleaf herbicide to the area around the ponds near the Woodland
Ridge Subdivision. Grading has commenced at time allows. In July they hope to focus more
attention on this project. Completion is expected by fall 2020.
• Spring Hill Aquatic Center has been officially closed for the 2020 season due to COVID 19.
Maintenance staff will continue to work on the facility during this time. Three design options
have been provided to the City Council for replacement of the Family Slide. Staff is currently
exploring new methods to make the slide functional.
