THE FOLLOWING MINUTES ARE SUBJECT TO MODIFICATION AND ARE NOT OFFICIAL MINUTES UNTIL APPROVED BY THE SPRING HILL PARKS ADVISORY BOARD Spring Hill Parks Advisory Board April 19, 2021 CALL TO ORDER Secretary, Dora Davison called the meeting to order at 7:11 p.m. Board Members in Attendance: Chris Cabe Heather Dubon Tommy Holland Caitlin Downey Board Members Absent: Doug D’Albini Staff in Attendance: Dillon Jones, Parks Superintendent Dora Davison, Administrative Assistant – Public Works PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. ROLL CALL The Secretary called the roll of the Parks Advisory Board. With a quorum present, the meeting commenced. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Motion by Tommy Holland, seconded by Chris Cabe, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION None FORMAL BOARD ITEMS Approval of Minutes: March 15, 2021 Motion by Tommy Holland, seconded by Caitlin Downey, to approve the March 15, 2021 meeting minutes. Motion carried. Election of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson & Secretary Chairperson Tommy Holland nominated Doug D’Albini for Chairperson; Chris Cabe seconded the motion. Motion carried. Vice Chairperson Caitlin nominated Tommy Holland for Vice Chairperson; Chris Cabe seconded the motion. Motion carried. DISCUSSION • Legacy Park and Program description was provided by Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones will provide members conceptual application and any additional information to have a more in-depth conversation at the May meeting. • Veterans Park donations are being accepted by the City. Mr. Jones encouraged members to brainstorm fundraising opportunities to aid the success of the project. Along with the previous donation to aid with the Veteran’s Memorial, another generous donation has been made for the City to install 2 fishing jetties. The engineering firm Vireo is in the process of developing a plan to make progressive improvements to Veterans Park as funds become available. Mr. Cabe requested Mr. Jones to provide members with the conceptual design and costs associated before the next meeting. • Daffodil Days – Members are invited to come whenever they can to represent the board at the community event Daffodil Days. The Parks Advisory Board will provide trees to giveaway in honor of Arbor Day. • Fishing Derby will be held at Veterans Park. Members will discuss possible participation at the May meeting. STAFF REPORT • KDHE Waste Tire Grant has been awarded to the City of Spring Hill. This is a 50/50 matching grant that will be used for playground surfacing at Friendship Park. • BNSF Grant has been applied for funds to continue landscaping at Veterans Park. The application has been submitted, no response from BNSF yet. ADJOURN Motion by Tommy Holland, seconded by Heather Dubon, to adjourn. Motion carried.
