City of Star Parks, Art & Beautification Committee (PABC) Monday, April 29, 2024, 6:44 PM 10769 W State St, Star, ID 83669 at Star City Hall 1A.1. Roll Call PRESENT: Chair Gerri McCorkle, Vice Chair Chris Cox, Rod McClure, Arlene Nelson, Vicki O’Keefe, Council Member Jennifer Salmonsen, Claudia Sanders, Sue Speer ABSENT: Staff Liaison Ryan Field 2A. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes Rod made a motion to approve the 4/15/24 minutes, Claudia seconded. The vote was unanimous. 3. Member Reports 3A. Review and Jury-Select from the Call to Artist Applications Received for the Star City Hall Public Art Exhibit Upcoming Quarterly Exhibit for June 1, 2024 – August 30, 2024 (ACTION ITEM) Arlene provided applications from the five artists who applied to display their artwork in the city hall art exhibit. The committee reviewed their applications and ranked the submissions. Mark Shawver was selected as the first choice, and Carol Thompson was selected as the second choice. Arlene made a motion to approve Mark as the next city hall artist and will ask if he is willing to share the display space with Carol. Rod seconded and the vote was unanimous. 3B. City Artist Reception (ACTION ITEM) Gerri raised the idea of hosting a Star Artist Appreciation Night for the artists who display their work at city hall, the traffic box art contest winners, muralists, possibly Art by the River ribbon winners from the September 2024 show, PABC members, and city staff. $1,300 for this event was included in the fiscal year ended 9/30/25 budget request that is currently pending. The preferred location for this event would be the Star Riverhouse. PABC identified October 22nd – October 24th, November 19th – November 21st, and January 13th – January 16th as possible dates for this event. Jennifer will check with Dana Partridge about the availability of the Riverhouse on these dates. PABC did not vote on an action item yet. 3C. Mural Art Discussion (ACTION ITEM) Gerri mentioned she met with a muralist who has completed several local murals, and who also serves as a judge for Art by the River. The muralist said that she liked the Star Sewer & Water building as a prospective site for a city mural and felt she could complete the project within PABC’s budget. As mentioned in a previous meeting, Star Sewer & Water personnel were open to the idea of a mural but would like more information before making a final decision.
