Jack Gombach Approval of the borough to enter a contract with Berkshire Mechanical for the amount of $4,600.00 to replace all cracked drain piping in the borough building. Approval of entering a contract with Central State Door service for the amount of $2,994.00 to replace five bay doors at the borough garage. Vice President Mr. Segina opened the meeting at 6:31 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Dent led the group in a Moment of Silent Reflection. Roll Call: The roll was not called, but the individuals listed above were present. Additions to Agenda (if needed): Motion made by Mr. Slade seconded by Ms. Woods to add the hiring of one public works employee and one part-time parking enforcement officer to the agenda. Motion passed unanimously. Public Comments on Agenda items only: None Department Reports: Fire Department and Ambulance A written report was presented, Chief Vance added that Bressler Fire Co. requested permission to hang a banner by Front & Swatara Streets. He noted that this was a high-quality banner that won’t rip and fall. Council had no issues. Police Department Chief Shaub stated the Police Department is hiring and the application period is open until June 2 with the test taking place on June 17. Going to hire 3 officers to reach full staff. Applied for a COPS Hiring grant to cover the costs of 2 officers. Mrs. Bowers asked if there was a flier for the positions. Chief Shaub informed council there was no hiring flyers, although posted online and in the newspaper. Tyler sent information over to be posted on the website. Public Works A written report was presented. Mr. Baltimore had nothing to add. Parks and Recreation Ms. Woods noted the committee is updating items at the parks. Working on the Community Hero event at Veterans Park on June 10 at 11:00 AM. 2 Community heroes will be honored. She also announced the Borough had received a $7,500 grant for the community garden from PA American Water. NEDC Ms. Woods discussed the continuing to update the projects that have been going on: Habitat for Humanity on 2nd St, Hamilton Health project, working on the certified Elm St Program that will help with local business facades around town. Mayor’s Report Mayor Dent stated they had raised $27,500 for the community garden so far. Excited to partner with Healthy Babies ($10,000), Penn State Health ($10,000), and PA American Water ($7,500). Working to put together a resource/workshop day with American Water to address residents' concerns about the rising cost of water bills. Borough Managers Report Nothing at this time. Mr. Slade presented for consideration and approval the hiring of Dennis Adlin at a starting salary of $22/hr. Pending background clearances. Motion made by Mr. Slade, seconded by Mrs. House to hire Dennis Adlin at a starting salary of $22/hr. Pending background clearances. Motion passed unanimously. Mr. Slade presented for consideration and approval the hire of Robert Belesic at a starting salary of $17/hr. Pending background clearances. Salary will be paid for by a grant. Motion made by Mr. Slade, seconded by Mrs. Woods to hire Robert Belesic at a starting salary of $17/hr. Pending background clearances. Motion passed unanimously. Public Comments: Charles | Hamilton Health Center Provided an update on construction progress. 523 Ridge St Raised concerns about the water runoff bill and the calculation method. Cheryl Powell | 321 Lebanon St Inquired about stormwater bills and sought clarification on various aspects. Kimberly | 11 N Harrisburg St Questioned a trash bill for a property that has been uninhabited during rehabilitation. Mr. Powell | 321 Lebanon St Addressed grass height and street issues. Mrs. Bowers Nothing to add, thank everyone for attending. Mr. Gombach Updates on projects and youth civic engagement. Mr. Gonder Nothing to add. Ciera Dent, Mayor Thanked attendees and residents. Urged for a permanent Borough Manager and improved communication. Discussed Cleaning Issues in the Building. Ms. Woods, Pro Temp Nothing to add, thank everyone for attending.
