STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION
Minutes of Wednesday, January 2, 2013 Meeting
Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313,
Conference Room 202, 6 p.m.
Members Present: Maurice Batarseh, Ronald Bindle, David Bollman, Frank DiMaria, Grace
Finazzo, Eboni LaMar, Donald Schinzing, John Stampor
Members Absent: Josephine Berthet, Jan Burns, Margaret Frontiera, Jeanne Schabath
Representing the City: Steve Guitar and Karen Kazmer
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the October 2, 2012 Cultural Commission made by
Frank DiMaria.
Seconded by: Eboni LaMar Ayes: all Nays: none
AGENDA ITEMS:
A. Memorial Day Parade
* 2013 marks the 60th anniversary of the end
of the Korean War. The theme of the Memorial
Day Parade will center on the anniversary;
Steve Guitar will contact Korean War Vets for
suggestion for Grand Marshal.
* Community Relations and commission members
will brainstorm a theme; via email members will
vote on theme.
B. Sterlingfest
* City administration has recommended the following
fee increases for Sterlingfest:
> $16 Application Fee
> $220 Artist Application
> $645 Food Vendor Application
> $1,455 Restaurant Row Application
* Maurice Batarseh recommended a flat 5%
increase be implemented.
Motion to implement the fee increases for
Sterlingfest as recommended by City administration
made by Donald Schinzing.
Seconded by: David Bollman Ayes: all Nays: none
* Applications for Sterlingfest will be mailed in late January.
Deadline for application submittal: March 25, 2013;
applications will be juried in May.
C. Election 0f 2013 Officers
> Nominations for Chair & Vice-Chair:
Chair: Maurice Batarseh and Donald Schinzing;
Vice Chair: Eboni LaMar and Donald Schinzing.
> Election Results
Chairman: Donald Schinzing
Vice Chairman: Eboni LaMar
OLD BUSINESS:
* The city did not receive any new Artist of the Month
applications. The January Artist of the Month post
remains vacant.
* Steve Guitar will prepare bid specs for painting services
for the sculptures and present to Cultural Commission
in February. Specs will include cleaning and maintenance
of sculptures.
NEW BUSINESS:
* Eboni LaMar detailed Patriot Week, held the week of
September 11th every year. Macomb County prepared
a resolution for 2012 Patriot Week. Eboni suggests the
Cultural Commission implement this program.
Motion to adjourn Cultural Commission meeting at 7:05 p.m. made by John Stampor.
