Minutes of Tuesday, February 7, 2017 Meeting
Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI

Members Present: David Bollman, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Jazmine Early,
Grace Finazzo, Jeanne Schabath, Mona Yassine, Stacy Ziarko
Members Absent: Ron Bindle, Judi Dent, John Stampor
Representing the City: Bridget Kozlowski, Karen Kazmer
Meeting called to order at 6:00
APPROVAL OF MINUTES :
Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the January 3, 2017 Art Commission
made by Frank DiMaria .
Seconded by: Jazmine Early Ayes: all Nays: none
AGENDA ITEMS :
A. Featured Artist
Motion to select OUCARES (Oakland University Center for Autism
Outreach Services) as the April-May 2017 Feature Artist made by
Frank DiMaria.
Seconded by: David Bollman Ayes: all Nays: none
David Bollman requested a certificate is given to each artist of this
program.
Motion to select Dolores Kurily as the June-July 2017 Featured Artist
made by Frank DiMaria.
Seconded by: Jan Burns Ayes: all Nays: none
B. Memorial Day Parade
Greg Bowman agreed to be the Grand Marshal of the 2017 Memorial
Day Parade.
C. Sterlingfest
Community Relations will distribute a media release next week on the
Children’s Corner and Fine Artist Booths at Sterlingfest.
Children’s Corner is designed for young artists to display their
artwork at Sterlingfest.
Cost will be $50 and will include a 6’ table under a tent shared with
other young artists.
Child must be on site during artist selling times; parents can assist
children.
All artwork must be contained in space allotted.
OLD BUSINESS:
Children’s Art Program
The teacher previously scheduled to attend Art Commission
meeting and assist with the program is not available; Mona Yassine
had a business card for an artist to assist.
Members agreed to have this program start four times a year.
Each art session would have a theme; sessions will be free but
children must pre-register.
Jeanne Schabath recommended members email suggestions to her
by February 27th; Ms. Schabath will make a presentation on all
suggestions at the next meeting.
Public Art Program
Bridget Kozlowski presented the proposed Public Art Program to
City Council at the City’s Strategic Planning Meeting on January 24,
2017/
The proposed plan could produce approximately $200,000 yearly for
public art.
Ms. Kozlowski encourages Art Commission members to become
active in this program.
NEW BUSINESS:
Jeanne Schabath will contact the artist who taught Art in the Park last
year to see if interested in conducting again this summer.
Motion to adjourn meeting at 6:55 p.m. made by David Bollman.
