STERLING HEIGHTS ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, April 4 , 2017 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202 Members Present: Ron Bindle, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Jazmine Early, Grace Finazzo, Jeanne Schabath, John Stampor, Stacy Ziarko Members Absent: David Bollman, Judi Dent, Mona Yassine Representing the City: Bridget Kozlowski, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6:00 APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the February 7, 2017 Art Commission made by John Stampor. Seconded by: Jazmine Early Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS : A. Memorial Day Parade  Community Relations is completing the bio of the Grand Marshal.  The ceremony will take place in front of the Police Department; staging for the parade will be in Dodge Park. B. Sterlingfest  Community Relations has received four “new artist” applications to date; no applications for the “children’s area” have been received. C. Sterling fast  The web site for Sterlingfast is up and accepting registrations.  bd’s Mongolian BBQ has committed sponsorship; a sponsor of medals is still needed. D. Children ’s Art Program  Jeanne Schabath stated the Library has a program on Saturdays geared toward youth  Board members suggested coordinating an art event for children the evening of Movie in the Park; per Parks & Recreation Movie in the Park is scheduled for June 29th, Lego Batman. E. Art in the Park  June 15th and July 20th are scheduled dates for Art in the Park for adult participants; June 15th from 3-5 p.m. is scheduled for children. OLD BUSINESS:  Endowment Fund  Community Relations will have the Sterling Heights Area Community Foundation investigate monies available for expenditure from the Art Commission Endowment Fund.  Public Art Program  Bridget Kozlowski and Jeanne Schabath met with MDOT regarding a Muriel being painted on the M53 underpass.   Beautification Commission will assist Art Commission on projects.  Bridget Kozlowski met with the Detroit Design Center regarding painting/landscaping/etc around existing sculptures on City property. Mrs. Kozlowski will invite Detroit Design Center to the June meeting. Motion to adjourn meeting at 7:00 p.m. made by John Stampor.
