STERLING HEIGHTS ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Meeting
Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313,
SHTV Studio
Members Present: Jan Burns, Lawrence Farhat, Grace Finazzo, Jeanne Schabath,
David Bollman, Ron Bindle, Mona Yassine and Stacy Ziarko
Members Absent: Jazmine Early
Representing the City: Bridget Kozlowski
Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES :
Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the April 3, 2018 Art Commission made by
Farhat.
Seconded by: Ziarko Ayes: all Nays: none
AGENDA ITEMS :
A. Memorial Day Parade
Kozlowski reminded committee members to check-in with Sue Giallombardo
before the parade on their assigned roles.
Kozlowski shared that a number of bands would be participating this year and
attendance looked equal if not greater than the previous year.
B. Art Commission Projects
Kozlowski updated the group on the Library mural installation as well as
Wendy Popko’s mural to be installed on the back of the BP Gas Station at
Dodge Park and Utica Roads.
Kozlowski updated the group that she worked with the Detroit Design Center
to order all new art plaques for the City’s existing artwork that would be
arriving sometime in June.
Kozlowski shared that she had contacted an art refurbishing company to take
a look at sculptures that needed refinishing. She asked the Arts Commission
to consider the allocation of funds to touch-up and refinish sculptures that
needed work.
Motion to approve the cost of re-finishing the Spiral Note and Centipede
sculptures using Public Art funds made by Bindle.

C. Sterlingfest Art & Music Fair
Members of the Arts Commission juried in artwork for Sterlingfest 2018.
OLD BUSINESS:
Kozlowski stated she received sculpture submissions from “The Arts” artist
Sergio De Guisti and would be emailing them out to Commission members to
weigh-in on purchasing a new piece to replace “The Arts.” She reiterated that the
City never paid for “The Arts,” it was simply on loan from a previous
Sterlingscapes.
NEW BUSINESS:
Kozlowski shared a the Warren Consolidated School District Fine Arts fair would
be taking place at the Senior Center the week of May 7. Farhat agreed to be the
Commission representative and attend the event.
Motion to adjourn the Art Commission meeting at 8:06 p.m. made by Farhat.
