STERLING HEIGHTS BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Monday, February 3, 2020 Chairman Gary Isom called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Commissioner’s present: Henrietta Baczewski, Steve Duncan, Manny Gonzales, Gary Isom, Nancy Kijek, Lisa Lake, Sharon Mason, Joyce Tye Commissioner’s absent: Gary Lusk, Matthew Smith Other present: Dawn Schultz, Citizens Services Specialist Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve Minutes of the Sept. 3, 2019 meeting made by Mason; Second by: Gonzales Ayes: all Nays: none Agenda Items: A. Hosting BCSEM Fall Luncheon/Quarterly Meeting  Schultz stated that we will be hosting the 2020 Fall Quarterly Meeting. Schultz handed out a brochure of the last quarterly meeting we hosted in 2013, which was co-hosted with Shelby Township and Utica Beautification Commission. Schultz added she contacted the Shelby Beautification Commission and they have offered to co-host with us again. Shelby Beautification Commission will help us with getting donations as well as pay for their own seats.  Baczewski stated that we waited to have the event until 2020, when all the city renovations were completed, including all of dodge park updates and the new community center. Baczewski added we could do a tour of all of the updates. Our commission agreed on a “recreation” theme. Lane added that we should focus on trees and parks and less about buildings. Old Business:  Schultz reached out to the youth advisory board about coming to one of our meetings. As of now, they are having committees come to their meetings, if we are interested in attending one of theirs, Schultz will set that up.  Kijek asked for an update on her friend being added to the committee. Schultz stated she had reached out to city clerk to see about getting the  other two not active members off the committee so we can get her on. Schultz will update everyone next meeting. New Business:  Schultz announced the next KMB & BCSEM event is April 8th at the Gazebo in Warren. Anyone that wants to attend can and the city will reimburse them. Make sure to keep your receipt and bring it to Schultz to be reimbursed.  Schultz stated that the Plant Exchange this year is May 9th at the Nature Center.  Isom stated that the city used to have a “traveling” dumpster that moved from neighborhoods so they could throw out their junk. He wanted to see if that is something the city would be willing to bring back. Schultz will get with DPW on this.  Because we did not have a meeting in January, we will hold election of officers at our next meeting.
