STERLING HEIGHTS BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 7, 2022 Chairperson Gary Isom called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Commissioner’s present: Henrietta Baczewski, Steve Duncan, Manny Gonzales, Sue Hobig, Gary Isom, Nancy Kijek, Lisa Lane, Matthew Smith Commissioner’s absent: Sharon Mason, Linda Meida, Patrick Rye, Joyce Tye Other present: Dawn Bondarek, Citizens Services Specialist Agenda Items: A. Approval of 2022/2023 Meeting Dates • Bondarek distributed the regular meeting dates. Motion to approve the 2022-2023 dates made by Kijek; Seconded by: Gonzales Ayes: all Nays: none B. 2022 Beautification Awards Jurying • Bondarek displayed photos of 28 homes, 4 multi-family properties, 4 businesses, 2 places of worship; and asked commission members to select their favorites in each of the categories. Members voted and the following properties were voted as Best of the Best: o Residential- 33572 Ashton Dr o Multi-family- Fieldstone Apartments o Commercial– Fraza o Place of Worship-S St Matthias Catholic Church • Bondarek stated that she will send out congratulatory letters to all nominees and winners and reminded members that the regular October meeting is cancelled. Members are invited to attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. for the beautification awards. There will be a reserved sign in the front row for the members to sit. Isom asked Bondarek to send him the script and he will be doing the presentation. C. Fall Quarterly Luncheon Preparation • Bondarek stated that the Beautification Council of Southeastern Michigan Fall Quarterly Meeting Luncheon that we are hosting is going to take place on Thursday, September 15th at the Community Center. Below are the updates: o Two members will need to sit at check-in table, there will be name tags for all attendees o All members to arrive around 9:00 a.m. to help set up o Eckert’s Greenhouse donated mums for centerpieces o Boxed lunches are from Boston Market with a final count of 60 o Pastries and coffee will be provided for attendees o The mayor will be in attendance to speak o Our keynote is Master Gardener Jean Persely o All proceeds made from tickets bought for the raffle will be to BCSEM • Kijek suggested we do a 50/50 raffle so we can make some money as well. Kijek volunteered to take care of selling the 50/50 tickets. • Bondarek is going to get change from Treasury to use for the raffle/tickets at the door. Old Business: • None New Business: • The commission is going to sponsor the Halloween decoration contest again this year. Community Relations will start promoting it on social media during the month of October.
