CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION, ACT 78 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF AUGUST 31, 2022 The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission, Act 78, was held in Conference Room 106, City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan. 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 12:02 p.m. by Chair Terri Jarema. 2. Roll Call. Present: Chair Terri Jarema (Sterling Heights, MI) Commissioner Kevin Conlan (Sterling Heights, MI) Absent: None. Position vacant due to the resignation of Jerry Griesbeck. Also present: Judy McHale, Clerk Coordinator; Don DeNault, Assistant City Attorney; Kate Baldwin, Human Resources Manager; Sarah Scowden, Human Resources Coordinator; Kaitlin Lee, Human Resources Coordinator; Shawn Allen, Fire Chief of Operations; Mike Amormino, Fire Chief of Training; Mario Bastianelli, Police Lieutenant; Jason Bisdorf, Police Sergeant; Dan Media, Civil Service Member Elect. 3. Approval of Agenda. Moved by Conlan, supported by Jarema, to approve the agenda as presented. Yes: Conlan, Jarema The motion carried. 4. Approval of the minutes from the meeting of May 25, 2022 Moved by Conlan, supported by Jarema, to the minutes from the meeting of May 25, 2022. Yes: Conlan, Jarema The motion carried. 5. Review and approve Police Officer eligibility and minimum requirements Moved by Conlan, supported by Jarema, to approve the Police Officer eligibility and minimum requirements. Review and approve Firefighter eligibility and minimum requirements Moved by Conlan, supported by Jarema, to approve the Firefighter eligibility and minimum requirements. Yes: Conlan, Jarema The motion carried. 7. Communications from Citizens There were no communications from citizens. 8. New Business. The Commission accepted the resignation of Jerry Griesbeck with regret. (This resignations leaves a vacancy on the Commission. This position is elected by the other two members of the Commission and will be addressed at a later meeting.) Chair Jarema introduced new member Dan Media, who was nominated/elected by the active members of Police and Fire. Mr. Media will assume his position on the Commission at the next meeting. Thanks was given to Commissioner Conlan for his years of service on the Commission. 9. Adjourn.
