CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2019 IN CITY HALL 1. Mayor Michael C. Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 2. Mayor Taylor led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and Melanie D. Ryska, City Clerk, gave the Invocation. 3. Council Members present at roll call: Deanna Koski, Michael V. Radtke Jr., Maria G. Schmidt, Liz Sierawski, Michael C. Taylor, Barbara A. Ziarko. Absent: Henry Yanez Also Present: Mark Vanderpool, City Manager; Marc D. Kaszubski, City Attorney; Melanie D. Ryska, City Clerk; Andrea Bara, Management Assistant. 4. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by Koski, seconded by Ziarko, RESOLVED, to approve the Agenda as presented. Yes: Koski, Radtke, Schmidt, Sierawski, Taylor, Ziarko. No: None. Absent: Yanez. The motion carried. A. To receive the results of the Board of Canvassers City Clerk Melanie D. Ryska read the 2019 City Election results certified by the Macomb County Board of Canvassers, received this afternoon. There were a total 17,906 votes cast at this election. The results are as follows: Office of Mayor, one 2-year term: Michael C. Taylor received 13,013 votes and is elected Mayor. Official Write-in Candidate Joseph Judnick received 332 votes. Office of City Council, six 2-year terms: Liz Sierawski received 10,425 votes and is elected to City Council, having been awarded the most votes, and in accordance with the City’s Charter, she will serve as Mayor Pro-Tem. Michael Radtke received 10,325 votes and is elected to City Council. Deanna Koski received 10,168 votes and is elected to City Council. Maria G. Schmidt received 10, 006 votes and is elected to City Council. Barbara A. Ziarko received 9,806 votes and is elected to City Council. Henry Yanez received 9,557 votes and is elected to City Council. Additional candidates include: Jazmine M. Early received 6,978 votes. Nicholas A. Cavalli received 6,357 votes. Brian Alsobrooks received 4,317 votes. Renewal of Millage for Police and Fire Protection and Local Street Improvements: Yes received 13,053 votes. No received 4,502 votes. The millage passed. B. Swearing-In Ceremony and Reorganization of the 2019-2021 City Council Chief Judge Pro-Tem Kimberley A. Wiegand administered the Oath of Office to the Mayor and City Council members. C. Recognition and Remarks – New City Council Each Council member took a turn congratulating their fellow Council Members and thanking their families, friends and colleagues and the public for their support in this  election. Each of the members are looking forward to the next two years working together to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Sterling Heights. 5. COMMUNICATIONS FROM CITIZENS Mayor Taylor opened the floor for comments from citizens. 6. There were no comments from the audience. 7. ADJOURN Moved by Ziarko, seconded by Schmidt, RESOLVED, to adjourn the meeting. Yes: Koski, Radtke, Schmidt, Sierawski, Taylor, Ziarko. No: None. Absent: Yanez. The motion carried.
