CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE ELECTION COMMISSION September 9, 2016 Location: Conference Room 201, City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 1. Meeting called to order and roll call Chairman Carufel called the meeting to order at 9:12 a.m. Commissioners present: John Gardiner, Joseph Niman, Jr, (via phone), and Mark Carufel – City Clerk. Also present: Melanie Ryska, Deputy City Clerk 2. Approval of Agenda Moved by Gardiner, seconded by Niman, to approve the agenda as presented. Yes: All Motion carried. 3. Approval of meeting minutes of July 12, 2016 Moved by Gardiner, seconded by Niman, to approve the meeting minutes of July 12, 2016 as presented. Yes: All Motion carried. 4. Review of ballot language / ballot proof for the City of Sterling Heights City Charter Amendment for Parks and Recreation Millage Chairman Carufel provided the commissioners with a copy of the City Council Resolution authorizing the placement on the ballot a City Charter Amendment for Parks and Recreation Millage, included in the resolution was the text of the ballot proposal authorized by City Council. He also explained that the Governor and the Attorney General for the State of Michigan had approved the ballot proposal and the resolution was sent to the Macomb County Clerk for inclusion on the November 8, 2016 ballot. The Election Commission was also provided with sample ballot language for review and approval. Moved by, Gardiner seconded by Niman, to approve the City of Sterling Heights City Charter Amendment for Parks and Recreation Millage proposal text and ballot proof for the November 8, 2016 election. Yes: All Motion carried. Moved by, Gardiner seconded by Niman, to delegate ballot proofing of the November 8, 2016 election ballots to the City Clerk and staff. Yes: All Motion carried.
