CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE ELECTION COMMISSION October 18, 2016 Location: Conference Room 201, City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 1. Meeting called to order and roll call Chairman Carufel called the meeting to order at 10:07 a.m. Commissioners present: John Gardiner, Joseph Niman, Jr, (via phone), and Mark Carufel – City Clerk. 2. Approval of Agenda Moved by Gardiner, seconded by Niman, to approve the agenda as presented. Yes: All Motion carried. 3. Approval of meeting minutes of September 9, 2016 Moved by Gardiner, seconded by Niman, to approve the meeting minutes of September 9, 2016 as presented. Yes: All Motion carried. 4. Appointment of election inspectors for the November 8, 2016 General Election. Chairman Carufel explained that the election inspectors recommended for appointment are for the most part inspectors that have worked numerous elections, however because of the expected high voter turnout, additional inspectors were being recruited and trained. Each precinct would have a minimum of 6 inspectors and as many as 9 inspectors. All inspectors will have any required training. Chairman Carufel requested authority to add additional qualified inspectors as needed. Moved by, Niman seconded by Gardiner, to approve and appoint the list of Election Inspectors and authorize the City Clerk to add qualified inspectors, as needed, for the November 8, 2016 General Election. Yes: All Motion carried. 5. Appointment of election inspectors to the Receiving Board for the November 8, 2016 General Election. Chairman Carufel explained that he is recommending three (3) receiving boards. All three will conduct their receiving duties at the Court including handling the Absent Voter Counting Board precincts. He also requested authority to add receiving additional boards, if needed, to speed up the receiving of the precincts.
