City of Sterling Heights ETHNIC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE Official minutes of the Tuesday, December 3, 2013 regular meeting. MEMBERS PRESENT: Sharron Allen Mohammed Alomari Ike Cabase Ann Jerzowski Susan Kattula Doug Najor Andrew Pulford MEMBERS ABSENT: Omie Brooks Dr. Steve Naumovski Betty Rush Iqbal Singh OFFICIALS PRESENT: Citizen Services Specialist Sue Giallombardo Community Relations Director Steve Guitar 1. Call to Order 2. Roll Call 3. Approval of Agenda: MOTION by Susan Kattula, SECONDED by Doug Najor. Approved 7-0 4. Approval of Minutes: MOTION by Sharron Allen, SECONDED by Doug Najor. Approved 7-0 5. Communication from Citizens: None 6. Agenda A. 2014 Cultural Exchange  Giallombardo stated that sponsorship level is down, and asked members to continue to solicit sponsors for the program.  Allen and Kattula stated that they will be purchasing full page ads for the program.  Giallombardo added that there are still plenty of spots open for entertainment; she will contacted groups that have participated in past years.  Posters will be available soon. Giallombardo will mail them or have them ready for distribution at the January meeting.  Cabase stated that he will visit local restaurants to ask for food donations.  Giallombardo stated that she will call on restaurants and visit them after the holidays.  Giallombardo told members to have all of their sponsor information (artwork and payments) at the January meeting. 7. Receipt of Correspondence: None. 8. New Business: None 9. Old Business:  Giallombardo reminded members that Christine Sauve, from Welcoming Michigan, would like short bios from the committee members so that she can highlight them on the Welcoming Michigan website.  Please submit your bio to Giallombardo and she can forward it to Sauve.  Cabase said that he wasn’t sure what type of information to include. Giallombardo stated that Sauve is just asking for a simple bio and a photo, which can include information about your heritage, or an interesting experience you have had, etc.  Najor suggested that the committee limit the number of Diversity Distinction Awards, as to not lessen the meaning of the award.  Kattula stated that the committee would have to vote on the issue.  Cabase suggested tabling the issue until the March meeting.  Guitar suggested strengthening the guidelines of the nominees. 10. Adjournment. Meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
