Sterling Heights Historical Commission February 4, 2016 40433 Utica Road Sterling Heights, MI 48313 Minutes of Meeting I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by DiMaria. II. Roll Call Present: John Connor, Frank DiMaria, Douglas J. Harvey, Michael J. Lombardini, Meaghan Mott, Ruthann Schinzing, Scott Townsend Absent: none Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon Thank you to everyone for undecorating the Upton House after Sterling Christmas. III. Approval of Agenda Request to add item VII.C. May Historical Program. Motion made by Lombardini to approve the agenda as amended, seconded by Mott. Motion carried. IV. Minutes of November 5, 2015 Minutes of the November 5, 2015 meeting were approved on a motion by Townsend, supported by Connor. Motion carried. V. Communications/Reports/Correspondence Commission members continue to receive local historical groups’ newsletters forwarded to them via email. Turgeon attended the MCHA meeting to review items for the annual meeting preparations. VI. Unfinished Business A. Names Project No update. B. Oral History Conversion Project No update. C. Wikipedia Page Looking for more information. D. Historical Display in Library Turgeon will call Norgrove to remove current display. Schinzing will do a silk pillowcase display for the first half of 2016. E. Clippings and Scrapbook  Debbie Vercellone can provide instruction to anyone interested in assisting. F. A Sterling Christmas 432 people visited the Upton House during A Sterling Christmas. Commission members requested that we get a rotating tree for the Community Tree or get a bigger one. Ten families participated. Many visitors thought it was a great idea and were interested in bringing an ornament next year. G. Macomb County Heritage Alliance Annual Meeting Mott has contacted the speaker. Mott will review the list of people to send invites to. Turgeon will be sending out the invites and has created the registration form and information form. H. City of Sterling Heights Book Proposal Lombardini offered to assist Debbie Vercellone with the book. The contract with Arcadia publishing was approved by City Council. The book will be finished in June 2017 with publication available for sale January 2018. I. Historical Marker Application – Leonard The marker was ordered for Leonard family. The application will need to be updated to a cost of $200. J. Summer City Magazine Article Turgeon will write the article about the city’s 50th anniversary plans. VII. New Business A. Election of Chairperson Motion was made by Lombardini to nominate Meaghan Mott as the Chairperson of the Historical Commission, supported by Schinzing. Motion carried. Mott accepted the nomination. B. New Funding for Upton House Commission discussed funding needed for Upton House improvements. Turgeon will approach the Community Foundation and the city to determine ways to accept donations. Commissioners should bring ideas to the next meeting about what needs there are for updating the Upton House. C. May Historical Program Turgeon suggested the program “When Amelia Came to Michigan” from Program Source International for the yearly historical program in May. Commissioners approved this as the program and Turgeon will contact them to determine a date. VIII. Communications from Citizens DiMaria was thanked for his leadership of the Historical Commission over the last two years. IX. Adjourn A motion was made by Lombardini to adjourn, seconded by Mott.
