Minutes of Meeting
I. Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by DiMaria.
II. Roll Call
Present: John Connor, Frank DiMaria, Douglas J. Harvey, Michael J. Lombardini,
Scott Townsend
Absent: Meaghan Mott, Ruthann Schinzing
Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon
III. Approval of Agenda
Motion was made by Lombardini to approve the agenda, seconded by Connor.
Motion carried.
IV. Minutes of February 4, 2016
Minutes of the February 4, 2016 meeting were approved on a motion by
Townsend, supported by Lombardini. Motion carried.
V. Communications/Reports/Correspondence
Commission members continue to receive local historical groups’ newsletters
forwarded to them via email. Turgeon reminded Commissioners that the Historical
program is on Wednesday, May 11th at 6:30pm at the Library.
VI. Unfinished Business
A. Names Project
No update.
B. Oral History Conversion Project
No update.
C. Wikipedia Page
No update.
D. Historical Display in Library
Connor will do a display starting in July. Turgeon will contact Schinzing
about the current silk pillowcases display.
E. Clippings and Scrapbook
Debbie Vercellone can provide instruction to anyone interested in assisting
. We need volunteers.
F. Macomb County Heritage Alliance Annual Meeting
Members of the MCHA Board and other local history organization
attendees seemed very pleased with this annual event being held at the
Sterling Heights Public Library. Thank you to everyone that helped set up
that day.
G. City of Sterling Heights Book
Debbie Vercellone has been receiving photos from long-time residents
and businesses. She noted a picture from Miller’s Orchard Market on
Clinton River Road with an aerial shot of the area in the 1980s. The Haff
family brought a picture of Governor Engler at their u-pick strawberry farm
in the 1980s. Councilwoman Koski has also been very helpful providing
Debbie with contacts for other photos.
H. Historical Marker Plaque - Leonard
Commission would like to get a photo with the Leonards and at least a few
of the Commission members. Turgeon will try to get a date that will work
for everyone in June.
I. Funding for Upton House
$275 was received in donations.
VII. New Business
A. Sterlingfest
Sterlingfest is being held on Thursday, July 28th – Saturday, July 30th. The
Upton House will be open on Friday and Saturday from 4-7pm. Sign-up
sheet was routed to commissioners.
B. Fall City Magazine Article
Lombardini will write the article for the Fall city magazine.
C. 2016/17 Historical Commission Budget
Commission is concerned about the leak in the roof. Turgeon will ask
Facilities Maintenance to look into it.
D. Purchase of Flag
A donation was received for the library to purchase history books. A small
part of the donation will also be spent on a historical flag for the Upton
House.

IX. Adjourn
A motion was made by Lombardini to adjourn, seconded by Harvey. Motion
carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
