AGENDA
I Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 6:04pm by Mott.
II Roll Call
Present: Cynthia Appleton, Nicholas Cavalli, John Connor, Douglas J. Harvey,
Meghan Mott, Mark Schell, Bryan Wojciechowski
Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon, Library Director
III Approval of Agenda
Requested to add VII.M. Historical Program and VII.N. Annual Report. Motion to
approve the agenda as amended was made by Appleton, supported by Cavalli. Motion
carried.
IV Minutes of December 5 , 2019
Requested change to December minutes change title from Agenda to Minutes.
Motion to approve the minutes of the December 5, 2019 meeting as amended
was made by Cavalli, supported by Wojciechowski. Motion carried.
V Communications/Reports/Correspondence
Appleton and Connor attended the Innovate Mound meeting.
VI Unfinished Business
A. Historical Marker Program
No updates at this time.
B. Vote on Procedures Manual
Motion to approve the Procedures Manual was made by Cavalli, supported by
Connor. Motion carried.
C. Sterling Heights History Traveling Box
MCHA has a March deadline for the $500 grant. Mott shared the grant
information with the commissioners. Supplies will include a laminator, boxes,
and items for the boxes.
VII New Business
A. Inventory/Gift/Donation Forms
Waiting for City Attorney approval.
B. City Bus Tours
Will be held on June 13th at 9am and 11am. Appleton will work on the updated
route and changes to the script for the April meeting. Tour will include 5-6
stops along the way. Need a volunteer to draw on a map the final tour so that
a booklet can be printed for the attendees.
C. Park and Canal Markers
The two canal markers will be purchased with the group at $30 each. They
will be put at 19/Hayes and on the other end of the city. The Commission is
interested in a sign for Belvedere Park in Rotary Park. Turgeon will ask City
Development for sign possibilities. Appleton will write up a description for the
sign.
D. Cataloging
The Historical Commissioners need to be trained first. The ad hoc meeting in
March will discuss what we need to purchase, and the process of cataloging
and how items will be handled. Training for cataloging could be done in May.
E. Soliciting Volunteers
This will be worked on once cataloging is all set up.
F. Social Media Posts
14 people visited on Sunday. The Library posts on Facebook once before
each event. Turgeon will ask the city to also post once before each event.
G. Posting our events on public calendars
Wojciechowski emailed C&G and Macomb Now. He will also contact the
Macomb Daily.
H. Possibility of e-newsletter through the city
Turgeon will request information from the city. Volunteers can add emails to
the shared drive to start an email distribution list. Wojciechowski will create a
link to the shared drive on the PC in the office. Turgeon will ask for email
addresses of those that register for the Historical Commission programs
through Parks & Rec.
I. E-commerce
Turgeon will talk to City Treasurer about use of credit card machine at the
Upton House Museum with the city PC in the office.
J. Upton House Museum Summer Hours
No dates for the Patios ‘n Pints yet.
K. Memorial Day Parade
The Historical Commission is interested in participating in the parade. It will
be on May 25th. Turgeon will bring the banner to the Upton House to be
stored. The Commission would like the bunting that is put on the house to
stay on from Memorial Day – Labor Day.
L. City Fall Magazine
The magazine will be due mid-July to Jason. Commission asked Turgeon to
ask Emily (Library Intern) to write about what she’s done with the historical
documents at the Library and what is available in the collection.
M. Historical Program
The program is titled "Secret Detroit". Karen Dybis, an author and reporter, is
presenting the material. The program is set for Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m.
N. Annual Report
As a part of the Procedures Manual, the Commission is to do an annual report
of the status of the Museum and the collection. Appleton read through the
Annual Report questions and commissioners assisted in answering. The 2019
Annual Report was completed.
VIII Communications from Citizens
The Historical Society of Michigan conference is being held in Sterling Heights on
March 27 – 28.
IX Adjourn
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Cavalli, supported by Connor.
Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:48 pm.
