Sterling Heights Historical Commission June 4, 2020 6:00 p.m. Meeting Meeting held via conference call Please call 1 929 205 6099 Enter Meeting ID 978 7869 1796 MINUTES I Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Mott at 6:04p.m. II Roll Call Present: Cynthia Appleton, Nicholas Cavalli, John Connor, Meghan Mott, Mark Schell, Bryan Wojciechowski, Emily Benoit, Tammy Turgeon Excused: Douglas J. Harvey III Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Cavalli, supported by Wojciechowski. Motion carried. IV Minutes of February 6, 2020 Minutes need to be adjusted to read Minutes where it states Agenda. Motion to approve the minutes as amended was made by Appleton, supported by Cavalli. Motion carried. V Communications/Reports/ Correspondance None VI Unfinished Business A. Historical Marker Program No new applications B. Sterling Heights History Traveling Box Submitted grant, may not award because no conference. We will wait to hear. C. Park and Canal Markers Appleton received markers. Want to put on foot paths. Will ask Doug for suggestions. One at canal/van dyke and one is at canal/schoenherr. Suggest one for museum and one for island park? Maybe make another sign under it that explains near area and learn more at xxx for more info (QR code). All commissioners should go to area to see options. Could also consider UCS building on Canal. D. Cataloging Mott and Connor mapped 5 of the rooms upstairs using excel. They will work on the rest and then we can get training. Appleton suggested doing it via zoom in July and/or August. Turgeon will send out suggested dates. E. Upton House Museum Summer Hours Turgeon will ask fire marshall about occupancy and then determine if 25% is doable. They will have Patios n pints in July and August on Thursdays. Turgeon will then find out if they have exact dates yet. F. City Fall Magazine article Benoit is doing on local history newspaper collection VII New Business A. Online Trivia Program Mott suggested. Combination of zoom meeting and kahoot. $20/month for 50 participants. Do in January? Also suggested photography project for winter – what we have now, compare what was in the past? April preservation week program also suggested. B. Cemetery Walk Not planning for this year C. Funeral Customs SHTV to film entire presentation. Turgeon will ask them. Intended as a live program, but would be recorded in case need to provide as virtual program. Will be held on October 23rd at 7pm. D. City Winter Magazine article Suggested an article about preservation week and/or how to preserve photos. Resources list for doing this for their own collections. Appleton will start this. VIII Communications from Citizens None IX Adjourn Motion to adjourn was made by Wojciechowski, supported by Cavalli. Motion carried.
