Sterling Heights Historical Commission August 6, 2020 Minutes 6:00 p.m. Meeting Meeting held via conference call Please call 1 929 205 6099 Enter Meeting ID 978 7869 1796 MINUTES I Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Mott at 6:04p.m. II Roll Call Present: Cynthia Appleton, Nicholas Cavalli, John Connor, Meghan Mott, Mark Schell, Bryan Wojciechowski, Emily Benoit, Tammy Turgeon Excused: Douglas J. Harvey III Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Appleton, supported by Cavalli. Motion carried. IV Minutes of June 4, 2020 Motion to approve the minutes was made by Wojciechowski, supported by Schell. Motion carried. V Communications/Reports/ Correspondance Appleton participated in a National Archives webinar discussing that history is happening now and she proposed a new project for children to submit pictures, essays, drawings related to the experience of living during the COVID-19 pandemic. Items would be submitted to the Historical Commission via the email address or a google form. The project could be shared on social media, library curbside service, and through UCS and WCS. Turgeon will contact the schools. Mott received mug and game from Ted Larsen. Turgeon received photos of items for possible donation to the Upton House Museum. She will send them to Harvey to see if interested in adding to our collection. VI Unfinished Business A. Historical Marker Program  No new applications B. Sterling Heights History Traveling Box Grant was awarded by MCHA for $181. Items are being purchased. Items will be put in a bin with a library barcode and list of contents. Title would be “Sterling Heights Historical Commission History Traveling Box” with an author of Sterling Heights Historical Commission and will be housed at the library. C. Park and Canal Markers Appleton will bring signs to Upton House. Turgeon will provide one to K. Langlois at Parks & Rec to be a part of an overall sign project for the path in Dodge Park. D. Cataloging Benoit trained Turgeon and Mott. Suggestion that Historical Commissioners continue to do intake forms and that each Commissioner complete 10 forms before the next meeting. This will give Commissioners time to do research on items. Library staff will be responsible for the cataloging entry and photographing and tagging of items. E. Funeral Customs Program Appleton has completed the script and contacted SHTV staff to do the taping. An Ad Hoc meeting will be held with talent and those interested in staging/decorating on Monday, August 10th at 6pm. A read through on Zoom will be held next week, followed by two rehearsals and then the live taping on September 14th at 8:30pm at the Upton House. Mott and Cavalli will be on/off screen talent. F. City Winter Magazine article Appleton will get list of resources for article on preservation. If Benoit has resources, please forward to Turgeon. Magazine info due to Jason October 1st. VII New Business A. Online Trivia Program Wait on this. B. Upton House Museum Winter Hours Depending on pandemic status, Commission interested in having the Upton House Museum open on Wednesdays from 1-4pm starting in January. Appointments could be taken through the Library Calendar system. Cavalli and Wojciechowski will work on an audio tour. VIII Communications from Citizens None IX Adjourn Motion to adjourn was made by Cavalli, supported by Wojciechowski. Motion carried.
