MINUTES STERLING HEIGHTS HOUSING COMMISSION November 13, 2012 Call To Order by President Miller at 6:03 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation. Roll Call. Present: Miller, Suwinski, Venetis, Mattera and Walker (arrived 6:04 pm). Also Present: Executive Director Stephanie Burgess, Regional Manager Sabrina Gaddy, Public Housing Manager Rachel Tononi and Maintenance Supervisor Jim Francis. Approval of Agenda. Moved by Suwinski, support by Mattera, to approve the agenda as presented. Ayes: All. Approval of Minutes. Moved by Venetis, support by Suwinski, to approve the October 9, 2012 minutes as presented. Ayes: All. Executive Director Report. Ms. Burgess reported that she was in the process of developing a survey to determine if residents would support the adoption of a smoke free policy. Ms. Burgess then reported that the Section 8 waiting list was opened on October 30, 2012. The limit of 200 applications was received within two hours and the list was closed. Monthly Financial Reports. Moved by Venetis, support by Walker to approve the September and October 2012 Monthly Operating Summaries. Ayes: All. Moved by Suwinski, support by Venetis to approve the September and October 2012 Section 8 Voucher Program Operating Summaries subject to correction. Ayes: All. Service Coordinator Report. The Service Coordinator assisted 18 residents in October. Additional activities included Halloween Trick or Treat, a bed bug prevention presentation, and flu shots. Public Housing Report. During the month of October Schoenherr Towers was 99% occupied with 43 applicants on the waiting list, 29 leasing calls received. Marketing action was taken through the Macomb County Housing sheet, internet, and the City of Sterling Heights website and referrals by current residents. There were 2 move-outs and 4 move-ins. Section 8 Report. Currently all vouchers are leased and/or issued. Maintenance Report. During the month of October there were 9 emergency service requests, 9 year-to-date. There were 185 service requests, 185 year-to-date. One service request was outstanding which carried into November. Special projects included: parking lot asphalt; carport painting; east fence replacement; and elevator floor replacement were all completed. Business. 1. Monthly Management Reports. Moved by Suwinski, support by Walker to approve the monthly management reports as presented by Fourmidable. Ayes: All. 2. Housing Assistance Program Register & Utility Payables. Moved by Venetis, support by Walker to approve the Housing Assistance payments as presented by Fourmidable. Ayes: All. 3. Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP). Moved by Suwinski, support by Mattera to approve the SEMAP certification report and authorize Fourmidable to submit on behalf of the Housing Commission under resolution 2012-11-01. Public Participation. Multiple residents spoke out in opposition of a smoke free housing policy. Adjourn. Moved by Venetis, support Suwinski by to adjourn at 6:25 p.m. Ayes: All.
