Special Presentations - Presentation of the “Employee of the Quarter” and the “Team of the Quarter” Award for the second quarter of 2005 No City Council action was required. - Parks and Recreation Update – Schedule of Park Events No City Council action was required. There was a motion to amend the agenda to include a staff report on the King’s Highway Bridge Approved 7-0 5. Consent Agenda – Approval of the minutes Approved 6-0-1 (Vice Mayor Bennett abstained, as he was not present at the March 16, 2005, City Council work session and meeting.) 6. Consent Agenda – An ordinance to accept and appropriate funds from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Aviation and to provide for a local cash match – First Reading Approved 7-0 7. Consent Agenda - An ordinance to accept and appropriate an Injury Prevention Mini- Grant from the Virginia Department of Health – First Reading Approved 7-0 8. Consent Agenda – An ordinance to accept and appropriate Transportation Enhancement Grant funding from the Virginia Department of Transportation and to appropriate a local cash match – First Reading Approved 7-0 1 9. Consent Agenda – An ordinance to accept and appropriate an Economic Development Initiative (EDI) grant award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the design and construction of the Great Dismal Swamp Interpretive Center – First Reading Approved 7-0 10. Consent Agenda - An ordinance to accept and appropriate a supplemental Home Safe Home, Virginia Grant award from the Virginia Department of Health – First Reading Approved 7-0 11. Motion – A motion to schedule a Work Session for April 20, 2005, at 4:00 p.m., unless canceled. Approved 7-0 2 There was a motion to amend the agenda to consider the following items and all of these items were approved by a vote of 7-0: An appointment to the Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities - Mary Hill Appointments to the 2005 Virginia Municipal League Policy Committees: ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY COMMITTEE Council Member Calvin Jones FINANCE COMMITTEE Council Member Joseph Barlow Council Member Curtis Milteer GENERAL LAWS COMMITTEE Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett City Manager R. A request to authorize the advertisement of a proposed telecommunications franchise. 18. Late Appearance – (Late appearances are limited by Section 2021 of the City Code to give (5) Minutes per speaker. There is no limitation on the total time period for late appearances).
