Mayor Duman called for a moment of silence in recognition of the late Sergeant Jose R. Rivera of the Suffolk Police Department and led the Pledge of Allegiance. City Clerk Dawley called the roll, and all members of City Council were in attendance. FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT CERTIFICATION City Clerk Dawley presented a resolution certifying the Closed Meeting of June 2, 2021, pursuant to Section 2.2-3712 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended. Referring to the presentation, Council Member Williams sought information about the location of the free mosquito dunks. Mr. Abadam stated that residents could get mosquito dunks at fire stations, libraries, recreational centers, the Municipal Center and the Mosquito Control Division. Council Member Fawcett, on a motion seconded by Council Member Johnson, moved to nominate and appoint the above referenced individuals to the aforementioned bodies, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Mayor Duman, Vice Mayor Bennett, and Council Members Butler Barlow Fawcett, Goldberg, Johnson, Ward and Williams 8 NAYS: None 0 ANNOUNCEMENTS AND COMMENTS Utilizing a PowerPoint presentation, Media and Community Relations Assistant Director Timothy Kelley provided a report on the following: the Suffolk Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge; the availability of free mosquito dunks; the re-opening of the East Suffolk Recreation and Whaleyville Recreation Centers; the 2021 National Night Out Community Kick-off and the State’s flooding zone website. Council Member Butler Barlow announced an upcoming meeting of the Greater Oakland-Chuckatuck- Sandy Bottom Civic League. Council Member Johnson opined about gun violence. Council Member Johnson extended his condolences to the family of the late Joyce Godwin. Council Member Fawcett acknowledged all of the residents in attendance.
