Ms. LaMonaco offered comments about the observance. Gloria Samarah, 8313 Hudgins Circle, representing self, spoke about ditch and water bill concerns. Teaundra Scott, 305 Magnolia Street, President of the Education Association of Suffolk, offered comments about school funding. Wayne Boyce, 5121 Indian Trail, representing self, talked about the City’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan, solar farms and roads. NEW BUSINESS City Clerk Dawley presented the nomination of Wayne Utley for appointment to the Suffolk Clean Community Commission Keep Suffolk Beautiful Executive Board. McCarley graduates from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy; the Suffolk Parks and Recreation Department’s Eggstravaganza; the availability of portable hearing loops at Suffolk Public Libraries; the return of certified therapy dogs for reading improvement skill sessions at Suffolk Public Libraries; 2023 Iconicon at the North Suffolk library; the Suffolk Earth and Arts Festival; and the Great Suffolk Cleanup. Council Member Rector reported that Nansemond Suffolk Academy participated in the Great Suffolk Cleanup. Council Member Rector announced he attended the Parks and Recreation Department’s Seaboard Coastline Trail meeting. Council Member Rector announced he attended the Suffolk Police Department Awards Ceremony. Council Member Williams congratulated Jessica Stallings and Andy Franklin on their new positions. Council Member Fawcett congratulated Jessica Stallings and Andy Franklin on their new positions. Council Member Fawcett congratulated Deputy Chief McCarley on completion of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy. Council Member Fawcett said he participated in the Great American Cleanup. Council Member Butler Barlow opined about topics raised by non-agenda speakers. Council Member Butler Barlow acknowledged the Media and Community Relations Department for public service campaign about road safety as it relates to agricultural equipment. Council Member Bennett offered comments about public safety. Council Member Bennett congratulated Jessica Stallings and Andy Franklin on their promotions. Council Member Bennett congratulated Deputy Chief McCarley on completion of the Federal Bureau of Invetigation’s National Academy. Council Member Bennett attended the Suffolk Police Department Awards Ceremony. Council Member Bennett congratulated Reverend Anthony Copeland on his 40th pastoral anniversary. Council Member Bennett said he attended the Parks and Recreation Department’s Seaboard Coastline Trail update meeting. 6 City Council Regular Meeting April 5, 2023 Council Member Johnson acknowledged all persons that who received an award or promotion. Council Member Johnson expressed appreciation to staff who responded to Route 58 incidents. Council Member Johnson said he attended Holland Civic League meeting and Community Electric Cooperative Substation ribbon cutting. Vice Mayor Ward congratulated acknowledged all persons that who received an award or promotion. Vice Mayor Ward congratulated Reverend Anthony Copeland on his 40th pastoral anniversary. Vice Mayor Ward opined about the Great American Cleanup. Vice Mayor Ward thanked staff for attending a Pughsville Civic League meeting. Mayor Duman opined about the Great American Cleanup. Mayor Duman congratulated Reverend Anthony Copeland on his 40th pastoral anniversary. Mayor Duman opined about historic district guidelines. Mayor Duman said he attended the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach State of the City addresses. Mayor Duman reported about the Hampton Roads Chief Administrative Officers and Mayor Regional Meeting on Violence. Mayor Duman talked about the Suffolk Parks and Recreation Department’s Eggstravaganza and Suffolk Police Awards Ceremony he attended. Mayor Duman congratulated Human Resources Director Jessica Stallings and Deputy Chief John McCarley on their achievements. Mayor Duman summarized this afternoon’s Work Session.
