STAFF REPORT Staff Report - Public Safety Updates Utilizing a PowerPoint presentation, Police Chief James Buie, Fire and Rescue Chief Michael Barakey and Finance Director Charles Meek presented information on the above referenced topic. Referring to the presentation, Council Member Rector asked for information about the parade bollards. Police Chief Buie advised that the bollards are mobile and can be deployed where needed. Council Member Rector inquired about the impact of the bollards on the need for staffing. Police Chief Buie agreed that the number of officers required at parade intersections would be reduced. Council Member Rector opined about the 2024 Peanut Fest. Council Member Rector announced he attended the following: the ribbon cutting of Sojourn Fermentory; the celebration for Linda Bunch’s retirement from the Suffolk Art League; the Nansemond River Clean-up and the Virginia Municipal League Annual Conference. Council Member Rector opined about the ongoing water main repair in the Azalea Acres area. Council Member Rector opined about the availability of trades training. Council Member Rector asked about the feasibility of distributing information from Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia in City facilities. Council Member Williams announced he attended the following: the Peanut Fest Parade; the Shrimp Feast; the Peanut Fest and the Community Leaders Brunch. Council Member Fawcett encouraged residents to attend the upcoming Driver Days. Council Member Fawcett reported he attended the Virginia Municipal League Annual Conference. Council Member Bennett asked for the installation of a red-light camera sign at the intersection of Nansemond Parkway and Portsmouth Boulevard. Council Member Bennett opined about Peanut Fest. Council Member Bennett announced the selection of his granddaughter, Amara Kennedy Oparaji, as the Peanut Fest Queen. Council Member Johnson opined about Peanut Fest.
