City Council Work Session October 16, 2019 Work Session of the Suffolk City Council was held in the City Council Chamber, 442 West Washington Street, on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, 5:30 p.m. PRESENT Council Members - Linda T. Johnson, Mayor, presiding Leroy Bennett, Vice Mayor Michael D. Duman Donald Z. Goldberg Timothy J. Johnson Curtis R. Milteer, Sr. Lue R. Ward, Jr. Patrick G. Roberts, City Manager Helivi L. Holland, City Attorney Erika S. Dawley, City Clerk ABSENT Roger W. Fawcett (excused) UPDATE ON RATING AND 2019 GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND ISSUANCE AND REFUNDINGS Utilizing a PowerPoint presentation, Finance Director Tealen Hansen gave an update about the above referenced item. Mayor Johnson asked about the number of localities in Virginia that have earned the AAA bond rating. Finance Director Hansen explained that Suffolk is one of 15 localities in Virginia that have earned the AAA bond rating. TRANSPORTATION CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS UPDATE Utilizing a PowerPoint presentation, Public Works Director Louis Hansen supplied a summary about the above referenced item. Referring to the presentation, Council Member Johnson asked whether the Norfolk Southern closure would be for seven contiguous days. Public Works Director Hansen advised the crossing is the purview of the railroad, and the City is working with them to mitigate impacts to motorists.
