MEETING MINUTES
January 13, 2015

The meeting was called to order at 2:00pm by Mrs. Judith Stone, President.
Mr. Lee Cross could not attend the meeting but requested to be teleconferenced in.
The Library Advisory Board unanimously agreed to this and Mr. Cross joined the
meeting by speaker phone.
Mrs. Hill made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of October 14, 2015 as
written. Mrs. Creekmore seconded the motion.
Mr. Rudy distributed to the Library Advisory Board a fact/information card that
outlined the importance of the Library to the Community. Revisions and additions
were made by the Board. The information can be used as a guideline for
conversation when questions are asked about the Library.
Mr. Cross requested informational stats.
Mrs. Langston and Mr. Bilby noted they had attended the Planning Commission
Meeting.
Mrs. Langston suggested inviting City Council members to a Library Advisory Board
Meeting.
February 1st we will start new expanded public service hours. Morgan and North
Suffolk Library will be open Monday – Thursday 10AM to 8PM and Friday & Saturday
10AM to 5PM; Chuckatuck will be open Monday 10AM to 8PM and Tuesday – Friday
10AM to 5PM.
Mr. Rudy is working toward creating a library foundation.
Mrs. Langston reported the Literacy Council met Tuesday, January 6th and is doing
very well with tutor training and classes. Classes have been extended to teach Math.
Ms. Sarah Townsend gave a presentation on Libraries Transforming Communities
Initiative. The American Library Association has awarded the Suffolk Public Library
an additional $1,900 grant (for a total of almost $10,000) to support our
participation in the Libraries Transforming Communities initiative.
The next meeting will be April 14, 2015 at 2PM in the Morgan Memorial Library
Meeting Room.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 3:30PM.
