Meeting Minutes
October 11, 2016

• The meeting was called to order at 2:10PM by Mr. Sean Bilby, Vice-President.
• Mrs. Creekmore made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of the July 12,
2016 meeting. Mrs. Slate seconded the motion and the minutes were approved
by a unanimous vote of 5-0.
• Mr. Rudy stated that we are working with the Virginia Library Association to try
to get a Library License Plate. DMV must have a minimum of 450 applications by
the end of the year.
• Mr. Rudy reported that the public space and collections at North Suffolk Library
will be reorganized. City Administration has authorized the closing of North
Suffolk Library November 8th thru 10th. The lobby, Commissioner of the
Revenue and Treasurer will remain open. Libraries are closed for the Veteran’s
Day Holiday November 11th.
• Mrs. Langston reported on the Literacy Council. They are doing very well and
continue to participate in community activities. Tutors are still needed as well
as donations.
• The Health and Human Relations Standing Committee did not meet today,
October 11th.
• The Library has received a grant from the Target Corporation in the amount of
$1,750. Suffolk Public Library is partnering with Suffolk Public Schools and the
Chesapeake Public Library/Schools for a “Battle of the Books” competition.
• The schedule for the 2017 Suffolk Library Advisory Board meetings was
presented. Mr. Cross made a motion to accept the schedule as presented. Mrs.
Langston seconded the motion and the schedule was approved by a unanimous
vote of 5 – 0. The schedule is as follows: January 10th, April 11, July 11, and
October 10, 2017. All meetings will remain at 2:00 PM.
• Mr. Rudy asked the Board if they wanted a presentation at future meetings by
staff on any particular area. Some suggestions were Youth and Family Services
and Collections.
• Mr. Bilby suggested having a Friends’ representative attend our meetings.
• The next meeting will be January 10, 2017 at 2PM in the Morgan Memorial
Library Meeting Room.
• With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 2:55PM.
