SUFFOLK LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes January 9, 2018 Board Members Present: Others Present: Mr. Sean Bilby (President) Mr. Clint Rudy, Director of Libraries Mrs. Nancy Creekmore (Vice-President) Mrs. Carolyn Phelps, Exec. Secretary Mr. Lee Cross Mrs. Megan Mulvey, Outreach and Mrs. Sharon Slate Program Services Manager Board Members Absent: Ms. Barbara Banze Mrs. Ernestine Langston Mrs. Sue Nichols • A quorum could not be met for the January 9, 2018 Suffolk Library Advisory Board Meeting. • Board members reviewed the October 10, 2017 meeting minutes. • During the month of January, we are participating in a nation-wide Winter Reading Program during which we will be trying to read 3,000 books as a community. • It was suggested that the Suffolk Public Library’s quarterly newsletters be sent to City Council and Planning Commission members. • The Literacy Council is in need of tutoring sites. This year’s fundraiser will be May 8th. • The Health and Human Relations Committee Meeting was canceled. • Megan Mulvey, Outreach and Program Services Manager, presented Tidewater Reads 2018, which is a regional collaborative between the Libraries in Tidewater to encourage reading the works of one author Kwame Alexander. • Engage Suffolk, a community event, will be held on Saturday, January 27th at North Suffolk Library from 11am to 2pm. This free program will give those attending a chance to meet local organizations and find out how they can get involved. • Board members reviewed the revised Technology Use Policy. • It was suggested that the Board members receive an email or phone call the day before the scheduled Library Board meetings as a reminder and for a quorum status. • The next meeting will be held Tuesday, April 10th at the Chuckatuck Library station.
