SUFFOLK LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes April 10, 2018 Board Members Present: Others Present: Mr. Sean Bilby, President Mr. Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries Mrs. Nancy Creekmore, Vice-President Ms. Karen Nelson, Senior Librarian Mr. Lee Cross Mrs. Sharon Slate Board Members Absent: Ms. Barbara Banze Mrs. Ernestine Langston Mrs. Sue Nichols • The meeting was called to order at 2:05 PM by Mr. Sean Bilby, President. • Mr. Lee Cross made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of the October 10th, 2017 and January 9, 2018 meetings. Mrs. Creekmore seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote of 4-0. • Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries, shared information about upcoming events and classes, new 2017 Annual Report, and other library information • Suffolk Literacy Council is working on promoting the annual GiveLocal757 campaign on Tuesday, May 8. The library is partnering with them on English Language Learning instruction and received an $11,000 grant from the American Library Association for their American Dream Initiative. • Mr. Rudy attended the Health and Human Services Meeting today. Dr. Chris Wilson, Director of the Health Department, presented information on the opioid epidemic. • The Technology Use Policy was approved by a vote of 4-0 with Mr. Cross making the motion and Ms. Creekmore seconding. • Ms. Karen Nelson, Collection Strategy Senior Librarian presented information on how she manages the Collection Strategy area of the library along with upcoming additions, process, and policies. • Mr. Rudy presented information on the history of the Chuckatuck Library followed by a tour of the building after adjournment. • Members suggested the next meeting feature a presentation about the North Suffolk Library Reorganization process and lessons learned. • The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 10th at 2PM in the North Suffolk Library Lobby. • With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 3:30 PM.
