Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting January 16, 2019 Summerville Town Hall, Training Room 9:00 a.m. Attendees: Members: John Pardee, Rick Reiff, Tara Bailey, Phyllis Thornwaite, Kelley Johnson Absent: Sarah Bares, John Mott Visitors: Bonnie Miley, Town of Summerville, John Altman, town resident, Sarah Cox, BCDCOG Call to Order: John Pardee called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. II.Public Comments: John Altman spoke of the safety issues on Hwy 17/ Main Street in Summerville, west of 5 points. He spoke of the lack of any sidewalks, or even a shoulder all the way from 5 points to Luden Drive. Cars have been stuck in the ditch many times. He said that SCDOT was seen doing a survey for sidewalks over 2 years ago, but nothing has been done. Rick agreed to contact DOT to find out the status of any potential projects. The committee agreed to put it on our list of potential future improvements. III. Acceptance of Minutes: Minutes from the November 2018 meeting were amended and approved. Kelley agreed to make amendments and send the revised minutes out to the committee. IV. Old Business: 1. The committee reviewed the Sidewalk Priority list and made a few changes. Discussion revisited the possibility of a crosswalk at Central Avenue and W. 2nd South Street. It was agreed that it would be too dangerous to install a crosswalk there. John Pardee did ask about the possibility of a bulb out to improve safety. It was agreed that a flashing crosswalk would be a good idea at W. Richardson and Little Main, even though the existing crosswalk seems to be very effective. Rick agreed to amend the Sidewalk Priority list again to reflect the new priority sequence. 2. Discussion on the fate of the SMB trail during construction of the BGM extension. Despite the committees’ recommendation that a new trail be created, this will not happen. Users of the trail will have to use an alternate route for the duration of the construction. The committee encourages the Town and DOT to expedite the project in order that the trail will be functional as soon as possible. V. New Business:  1. Action Item: The committee agreed to discuss the and decide on committee roles and terms at the next meeting. 2. Action Item: The committee agreed to amend the date of the next meeting to Wednesday, March 27th, 2019. VI. Next Meeting: Wednesday, March 27th, 2019. VII.
