Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting May 15, 2019 Summerville Town Hall, Training Room 9:00 a.m. Attendees: Members: Rick Reiff, Tara Bailey, Phyllis Thornwaite, Kelley Johnson, Sarah Bares, John Mott, John Pardee Visitors: Bonnie Miley, Town of Summerville Call to Order: Chairperson John Pardee called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. I. Public Comment - none II. Acceptance of Minutes: There were no minutes from the April 17th 2019 meeting due to the fact that there was not a quorum at that meeting. III. New Business: John Mott initiate discussion on the long-term solutions to the BGM extension and its effect on the Sawmill Branch Trail. It was agreed that the effect is definitely not ideal. The committee has voiced their disapproval in the lead-up to the approved plans by SC- DOT, but the project will go forward as planned. The committee encourages those in charge of the project to expedite the process as much as possible to lower the impact on the public’s use of the trail. John Mott also pointed out that the Coralie Drive access to the bike trail will be very dangerous, even after the construction is complete. It was agreed that John would write up a brief outlining these specific concerns and present it at our next meeting. IV. Old Business: 1. It was agreed that we would go forward with our Sidewalk Workshop on June 5th, 2019. Sarah agreed to consult with a member of DREAM Summerville and invite them to this workshop. 2. Kelley asked about improving the parking area near the trailhead of the SMB trail at East Carolina Avenue. Bonnie agree to speak to Doyle Best about the options.
