Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting January 15, 20120 Summerville Town Hall, Council Chamebers 9:00 a.m.. Attendees: Members: John Pardee , Kelley Johnson, John Mott, Mike Peebles, Ned Shows, Sandy O’Keefe Visitors: Bonnie Miley -Town of Summerville, Robbie Robbins,- SCDOT, Mayor Waring - Town of Summerville Call to Order: John Pardee called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. I. Public Comment Chairperson John Pardee welcomed the new members to the committee. Robbie Robbins introduced himself and offered his assistance for any work done by the committee. Discussion surrounding the Oakbrook area ensued, but agreement that the connectivity between the various multi-use paths needs to be a priority. Bonnie reminded us to seek out the help of Eric Davis at Dorchester Parks & Recreation. Both Sandy and Robbie agreed that the county definitely needs to be involved. John spoke about the need to get the shopping center revitalized as part of the overall improvements for safely accessing the Oakbrook area. Sandy spoke of the new advocacy group started in Summerville - Bike/Walk Summerville, whose goal is advocacy, education and safety. The committee agreed that our two groups can help each other out in many ways. Discussion continued regarding the BGM extension construction issues and its drastic impact on the SMB Trail. Various alternatives to the detour route proposed by the Town were discussed. It was agreed that everyone needs to attend the Public Meeting on January 23rd to give our input on the project. John Mott outlined other problem areas with the BGM project included the lack of connectivity planned for access to Greenwave Blvd., and safety concerns at Coralie Drive and Luden Drive. II. Acceptance of Minutes: Minutes from the November 2019 meeting were amended and approved. III. New Business: None IV. Old Business: John Mott will draft a letter to Norfolk Southern regarding the need for an easement under the railroad tracks so that the SMB Trail can be extended safely to Jockey Court. Future meetings: March 11 - Sidewalk workshop May 20, 2020 July 15, 2020 September 16, 2020 November 11, 2020 (tentative) V.
