Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting January 20, 2021 Zoom meeting 9:00 a.m. Attendees: Members: John Mott, Ned Shows, Sandy O’Keefe, Mike Peebles, John Thurmes, Gene Brislin, Vincent Thurman Visitors: Bonnie Miley, Town of Summerville Call to Order: Bonnie Miley called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m. I. Public Comment none II. Acceptance of Minutes: Minutes from the November 2020 meeting were approved. III. New Business: Discussed in length the abrupt departure of our past chairman, vice chairman, and secretary. Introduced the new committee members and did a round table introduction. Election of Officers- no opposition Mike Peebles- Chairman Gene Brislin- Vice Chairman Sandy O’Keefe- Secretary IV. Old Business: Discussed the sidewalk/ crosswalk priority list, made mention of focusing each specific area at a time then moving on..(downtown Summerville, Knightsville, etc) Lee Street W 5th South Street Richardson/ Highway 78 Parkwood/ Central Central Ave- multiuse path N. Hickory Discussed the use of Strava to create an improvement list to re prioritize and gain information. Multiuse paths vs. sidewalks- DOT guidelines where a multiuse path will “fit” 10-14 feet where there is a high % of pedestrians Discussed the Berlin G Myers extension- creating alternative route for bikes/pedestrians during construction Reviewed the BPAC meeting calendar March 17 May 19 July 21 September 15 November 17 V.
