Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting March 17 Zoom meeting 9:00 a.m. Attendees: Members: John Mott, Ned Shows, Sandy O’Keefe, Mike Peebles, John Thurmes, Gene Brislin, Absent: Vincent Thurman Visitors: Bonnie Miley, Town of Summerville, Amy Evans- Towns parks and rec director Call to Order: Chairman Mike Peebles 9:00am I. Public Comment none II. Acceptance of Minutes: Minutes from the January 20th 2021 meeting were approved- posted on website 3/15 with meeting agenda III. New Business: a. Committee organizational discussion- committee role to be more proactive b. Community Involvement- partner with Bike/ Walk Summerville, trail enhancements- Sandy Gene recommended get interns involved and collect data for sidewalk inventory c. Bicycle/ Pedestrian Active Transportation Plan a. Towns draft plan from 2010 when can the town obtain a new one? b. Mike and Gene to work together possibly set up meeting with Mayor and council, outside consultant would be needed for new town transportation plan. IV. Old Business: a. Priority List: Safety should be a priority, Gene will look into (vehicle counts, speed limits) Need to create a criteria for assessing safety when prioritizing projects b. Sawmill branch trail alternate route for BGM parkway phase 3 a. John Mott presented the new USACOE permit for the BGM parkway phase 3 that is on public notice. Several sections of the trail downstream of luden will be closed before the construction begins in order to improve portions of the canal. Then when the construction begins it will close the trail from luden to E Carolina. This info was new to the groups as well as Bonnie and Amy. b. SCDOT publice meeting is virtual March 30-April 14- need to attend and make comments i. John- existing trails (multiuse paths)on NNR and DOrch rd. need to connect ii. Mike- recommend creating a sub-committee for trail realignment and present to recommendations to the mayor/ council. Work on this before May meeting. iii. Gene: action items to work on for next meeting and mike suggested workshop in June for Public feedback on Alt trail route Next meeting is May 19 July 21 September 15 November 17 V.
