CALL TO ORDER
Chair Park called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. in the Neighborhood Room.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1A 15-0749 Draft Minutes of June 17, 2015 Arts Commission Meeting.
Commissioner Lawson moved and Commissioner Kiphuth seconded the motion to
approve the minutes. The motion carried by the following vote:

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2 15-0795 Update on Arts Master Plan
Community Services Coordinator Kristin Dance provided information about the
process to create a master plan for public art. Council has approved a maximum of
$65,000 to create a written plan which defines and directs expenditures for the
Public Art Fund. She reviewed various components of art master plans and asked
Commissioners to discuss their priorities if the budget allows for additional
components. Commissioners identified the following priorities: determine the
economic impact of the arts in Sunnyvale; create an accessible and interactive
inventory of the current art in the City; review programming which will increase the
level of art and culture available to the Community; revitalize art with the younger
generations; and create partnerships with businesses to benefit the community and
increase art in the City.
Chair Park opened the public comments. There were none and she closed public
comments.
3 STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES
None.
4 15-0750 Election of Chair and Vice Chair
Chair Park reviewed the process for elections.
Chair Park opened public comments. There were none and she closed public
comments.
Commissioner Lawson nominated Commissioner Kiphuth for Chair. Commissioner
Kiphuth declined the nomination.
Commissioner Kiphuth nominated Commissioner Park for Chair. Commissioner
Park accepted the nomination.
There were no further nominations. Commissioner Park was elected Chair by the
following vote:

Commissioner Lawson nominated Commissioner Kiphuth for Vice Chair.

-Commissioner Comments
Commissioner Koppel announced he attended the California Theater Center (CTC)
performances at Kings Academy this summer. They are celebrating their 40th
anniversary this year, however are experiencing significant financial hardships in
part due to the cost of rent. Commissioner Koppel expressed his support for CTC
and stated he would like there to be more opportunities to promote and advertise
art in the City.
Chair Park announced Suzanne Moshier's resignation. She also announced the
Community Event to paint tiles for the mural at Murphy Park on Saturday, August
22, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon.
-Staff Comments
Superintendent of Community Services Daniel Wax welcomed Commissioner
Koppel to the Arts Commission and gave the members some background on
Commissioner Koppel. He also reminded Commissioners of the Civic Center
Workshop on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m.
